That just makes me hate wolves even more.I know we should never interfear with nature but damm instead of walking away he should of finished her rite there. He was grouse hunting so I think he musta had a shotgun or a 22.

Found moose remains were they seemed to kill it for fun.Never ate the moose at all.

I've chatted with Mike at michigan-sportsman.com. He posted a sneak preview for us on that forum.

Anyway, he said he only had bird shot and didn't want to kill the doe only to have that wolf go and kill another (live, healthy) deer.

I kinda see his point but no way I could of sat through that without putting that deer down.Actually should of killed them both.Put a round or two of birdshot in the wolf's azz see how it would of liked it.

It just turned up my hatred for the wolf period.

There are other issues to consider here.

Hefty fines and jail time are two that come to mind. Killing wolves, a federally protected animal in MI, is illegal.

I agree, finishing the doe would seem like the right thing to do, but it's not an easy call. He only had bird shot and was quite a ways away across the river. Oh, by the way, there was a potentially dangerous wolf nearby.

Regardless, he's able to speak for himself, so feel free to contact him if you wish.

Eat some lead! Yotes piss me off more. Seen deer eaten around the throat area and left the rest for the birds.

I guess I can't understand anyone that would suggest to finish the deer off. This is nature people, and its been going on long before we were here. I can understand people that have problems with wolves because they are eating their livestock, or an occasional pet. However, those of us that have such hatred for an animal because it kills more gruesomly than we think is appropriate, or because they kill "OUR" game animals is a bunch of crap.

I always cringe whenever I see a topic like this come up, because I know what I will have to read through: whiney little baby's that feel wolves will take away all of their fun. Of course as a hunter I like to see abundant deer when I'm in the woods, but as I see it hunting is for controlling an over abundant deer herd. Not for going into the woods to watch a deer parade and picking out the largest buck to shoot and hang on my wall.

As people that claim to be nature loving outdoorsman, I can't believe that there is such outrage towards an animal that is doing what it was made to do. We cannot pretend that animals should "do the right thing", or "play nice" as we want. Its nature and ugly things happen. There is no right or wrong for these two animals, only life and death.

Now before I get piled up on, let me say that I am not a wolf lover, and would not put them up on a pedestal. I believe we need to be allowed to control their population numbers just as we try to do with any other animal. But to think that somebody should come into this situation and "make things right" is just rediculous. Like it or not, this is how the wild is, it's wild, and that is how we should leave it.

It is tough to see but best to turn the other cheek as it's mother nature. Last week a pack took down a deer accross the road from my house, the racket will wake you up from a dead sleep for sure...god aweful. It's a little harder to take when it's a tough winter. 11 years ago we had a killer winter lots a snow and very cold( -40 several nights) One day I snowshoed our creek for about 3/4 miles and came by a total of 12 deer kills, that was tough to see. We've had a pack around the house for 3 weeks now, I make sure I go to the kids "forts" with them!

Shooting should have been done with something other than a camera.

That's just cruel, heartless, mean old Mother Nature. The doe should have called 911, or explained to the wolf that it was violating it's rights.

Why would you shoot a wolf for being a wolf? It's eating it's natural prey, not sheep or cows or somebody's dog.

That's reality. Show this to all the bambi-loving, talking cartoon animal buffoons, and tell them THIS is nature. It shows that a hunter's bullet is far more humane than anything in nature.

I wouldn't have fired a shot at either of them.

Those federal bureaucrats who insist on protecting wolves should spend some time out here among their little darlings.
The problem with the federal government is they start something (like reintroducing wolves into Yellowstone) then they just let it get completely out of hand. They turn a deaf ear when people ask them to do something about controlling their little pets, who eat everything from your calves to the family dog.
Federally protected species my ass. Its shoot, shovel, and shut up. That will be the practice until the feds figure out a way to put federal marshals in the woods to guard each wolf pack.

I'd have to agree with OMEGA & grouseman. I think the gentleman that took the pictures did the right thing by not interfering. As hard as it must have been to watch the doe suffer like that, he let nature take its course. -TomT

Omegadude, let's hit this from another angle shall we, If someone put a bullet through the wolf then it would just be a case of one predator killing another over turf or game just as nature has intended and just what would happen if Yogi Bear stumbled upon this little escapade. Right???

IMO wolves are just bad dogs and need to be treated as such.

Nature is what it is. It's just our perception that it's cruel, mostly because we live apart from it so much of the time. Judging wild critters by human standards that are honed in the land of sidewalks and electric can openers seems kind of goofy to me.

+1

Saw our old momma cat bring a mouse up to her 8 week old kittens the other day, how cruel they were to that poor little guy.
