Per the precision rifle blog...in a medium size case....pretty hard to beat H4350.
And unless you are using a Magneto speed chrono....I am not sure anyones' data over an F1 type chrono is worth a schzitt
Please God, give me some good tags this year....

Jesse Jaymes ,
Yeah -Hodgdon powder makes good stuff .
I'm wondering if people have used Vitivouri powder -Norma powder maybe others ? that were consistent across their product line . Read more than once that the new IMR line wasn't as good as Hodgdon .
I worked up a load using Re17 / 162amax in my 280ai rem. 700 shot great when I finished load tuning but when I check it 6 month later -not so much . Same story with imr 7828ssc . Trying to get some expert opinions instead of "buying & trying" more powders .
Anybody use the Vitivouri 5 series of powder ? I know EddyBo liked that powder . Thanks Mike

What are you trying to do Mike? I`ve used lots of different powders in my various rifles with great success, with a mix of IMR and Hodgdon, no Vitivouri tho. Haven`t found the need. Maybe you should look up "THLR.No" on youtube, long range shooting. He just switched from Vitivouri to Hodgdon powders. I`m assuming you used a different lot of RL-17 when you tried the load 6 months later?

The new alliant powders are impressive.
I would not buy something that runs on any kind of primer given the possibility of primer shortages and even regulations. In fact, why not buy a flintlock? Really. Rocks aren't going away anytime soon.

Which have you found to have good ES & SD ? H4350 in medium cases and H1000 in bigger cases seems to be the standard. That mirrors my experience also, they seem to be the most consistent and least fussy of all the powders I've tried. Unfortunately H4350 seems to be unobtainium right now.

In 2015 -2016 I used IMR-4451 and IMR-4166 for temp stability and anti Copper fouling
In 2011 -2014 I used H4350 and H4895 for temp stability
In 1999 -2010 I used IMR-4895, Re22, and dozens of other powders.

CGPAUL ,
Trying to get better vertical at long range . Re17 and I-7828ssc aren't working , h-1000 isn't accurate , H-4831sc is only accurate with low to midrange loads .Which is odd in my expierence .
[Quote]""I`m assuming you used a different lot of RL-17 when you tried the load 6 months later?""
No -using same loads from summer in winter -like I said great short range groups bad winter groups vertical as much as a foot -horizontal 3-4" on a very calm day . 730 yards . I checked out THlr and will watch some more -thanks .
I have did some CBS cold barrel shot expierimenting -thus far it ain't pretty , although I don't go deep into the weather etc. etc. just try to keep it somewhat simple myself .
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yep H-4350 unattainable around here too- but I've never tried it in the 280ai .
I have an OCW test loaded with H-1000 & Berger Hybrid 180's -fingers crossed - I'll let you'all know how it shoots soonish .
I'm going to grab a pound of IMR 7977 and load a second powder combo when I test . Hopefully one of those will do well . The 180gr. Hybrids sure are pretty .

That's odd. Doing load workup on my 7mm rem mag I switched from RL-26 to H-1000 and halved my groups at long range. The RL-26 gave me better velocity but the accuracy wasn't there. Just goes to show that each rifle is an individual.

I've been happy with RL-22 in 6.5-284 and H-4831SC in 300 WSM. Old fashioned IMR 4350 works good in 243.

Which have you found to have good ES & SD ? With this question being so vague.....no cartridge or bullet weight it is impossible to give an answer that has any meaning whatsoever, on the other hand if you were to ask what TP is the best for wiping your azz in the morning if diarrhea or constipation it would be Charmin.

Ramshot Magnum.
Just to be odd man out. Recall an email reply from gent at Ramshot about using their Magnum in a 6.5x55 rifle. He kinda thought I'd be better off using their Hunter powder....that the Magnum was too slow a powder, less velocity from it and etc. Well, he may have been right, but my Magnum 6.5x55 loads are consistently more accurate for me.

I'm using Vihtuovari N560 for my 270wby, 300wsm and the 6,5x55 with consistent and good accuracy. In my rifles the N560 have given better speeds es and accuracy than norma mrp,h1000,4831sc,and also the N160 and the N170.

I don't have a favorite brand, but the powders I have the best results with are made by Hodgon.
