I have a Savage bolt action in 22-250 that I want to rebbl to 6.5 Creedmoor. I have a flutted Savaage take off bbl in 6.5CM I have the vice and bbl wrench. Can I use the same bolt face? Where to get the go,no-go gauges? It is a wood stock I will have to open up the bbl channel. All advice appreciated. Thanks Coach

Yes, the same bolt face will work. Quick and dirty way to headspace is to tighten the barrel (carefully) on a factory load or full length sized case, back it off 5 degrees or so and tighten the nut. Check several rounds, different brands preferably, and call it good if it will chamber them all.

If you are confident you can use a fired/resized case as mentioned. But the gages are available pretty cheap from Brownells or Midway or one of the reamer makers. You can usually get 75% of your investment back by selling on ebay or the forum. You might be able to rent them from 4-D or ReamerRentals.com. Your bolt face size is correct but during the head-spacing event, you will want to remove the ejector and spring from the bolt. You can get by with the Go gage and and scotch tape to the head to add .004" to act as a No-Go. Having both gages is not a bad thing though.

Just a reminder, Savage has made 6.5 Creedmoor barrels with both small and large "shank"/tenon diameters, so if the barrel that you're seeking to install has the same diameter tenon and contour as the barrel that you're seeking to remove, it is an easy job. If not, the difficulty factor increases substantially.
I have installed 2 Savage 11 22" CM light/sporter contour barrels on Marlin XS7 actions with minimal time and effort.
