I keep going back and forth between German 4 and post and duplex. If it's the same as meopta's # 4 it would be a no brainer for me but it's hard for me to tell looking at the custom shop website

I have a #4 installed by Premier Reticle in my 1x4. Most of my scopes have the post & duplex. I like a thicker center wire. I have had a heavy duplex and like the post & duplex more.

Assuming Bear is the game.
Suggest and recommend a heavy duplex reticle.

I have a #4 in a VX2 3-9x40 & in a Meopta 3-9x42. The Meopta is much better. I have a post and duplex being installed in a 2.5-8x36 at the custom shop now. By the pics, it looked to be more useful than Leupolds #4.

The #4 on the 3X9X42 Meopta is about perfect but I don't think even all of Meopta's #4's are the same.

Here are some pictures I took a few years ago. The distance is actually around 140 yards to the truck. http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/topics/6102889/reticle_pics

Jack,
the open sights on the alaska are really good. i do not think a 2.5-8x36 needs a german 1. that rifle is not only for bears but ours are not that big coastal brown bear ...

I had a German #4 installed in a VX-3 1.75-6x32 a couple of years ago. I like it.
