I was bored in the shop and was trying a few new things. This one will be going in my pack this fall. Now some leather work.

Definitely a class piece.

Oh boy! That should get the job done, plus some. You'll like the M4 steel...

Thanks for the compliments. It's a shame it has to sit in the safe for 6 months before getting out in the field.

If you really can not find something to cut up with it for 6 months, I might be able to test it for you.
65Rc must be about the ceiling on hardness for knife steels.

It is the upper end and M4 is one of the few steels that are steel usable at that high of a hardness. I would call it a pure cutter although. It wouldn't be the knife I use to pry out elk ivories or chop through a pelvis but to quarter and bone out it is hard to beat.

Yeah, I talked with a manufacturer of planer blades that used M4 and went to that Rc. I have always been interested in doing some myself, but haven't yet. I do have a couple large tactical blanks he made for us to do some production samples and some day will try to do something with them on the belt grinder. We did the samples with cnc grinders under a water bath. I think I will be wearing out belts in a hurry.
Nice knife.
