There's a pretty big difference in health care costs between now and our grandfathers time. Gramps could go to the doctor and get treatment a hell of a lot cheaper than we can. Even I am old enough to have known and used the services of doctors who charged very reasonable fee's. Not so anymore.

Almost daily anymore I want to reach through the friggin TV screen and grab the dimwitdipshit rino politicians by their throats slam my forehead into their noses and crush their windpipes while I hold them real close and real still and ask them one question - "Are you a capitalist or a socialist"?
The current crop of rinos in the United States House and Senate are so friggin pathetic (with VERY few exceptions!) - the ONLY good thing you can say about them is that they are 100 times better than the pro-communist, anti-American socialist demonrats!
I am sick and pphhucking tired of paying out my hard earned monies for deadbeats, welfare spawn, welfare scum, welfare cheats and deadbeats (I know I mentioned them already but there are getting to be hoardes and multitudes of these deadbeat types here in America) let alone the legions of illegal aliens!

P.S.: I am the first person willing to share my money with truly incapacitated Americans (folks who can not care or provide for themslves due to reasons other than drug use, alcohol abuse or sloth).

If what I was told in Costa Rica is true, and I understood it correctly, it can work. Down there they have that socialism down cold, and seemingly making it work for them..

No one can get a job without a work permit. No one can get a work permit until age 18, with gradution from high school. All schooling K-12 is free, college is subsidized. Literacy is 99%. No job, no medical care. Every kid has a computer in school. They are working toward having 100% literacy in English for every HS graduate, and start them off in 1st or 2nd grade. (Good plan, cuz the language button clicks off about age 11 in most people - which is what all those little rats are techies and we geezers can't program a damned thing!)

Every salary is taxed a flat 20%. This covers both education and health care. One salary in the family gets free medical care for everyone. Every community has a clinic, and every family in the country is registered. Every family gets a home visit by a medic once a month, some, due to light work load, twice, checking for health issues. For major issues the patient is told which larger center to go to (whoever has the most room/expertice. No choice). Transportation is provided.

Of course, since they have no military, that frees up a bunch of money. And you know who has their back on that one....

Look around CR. No infrastructure, ie sewer, sidewalks, fire hydrants. Hot water from a black 50 gal. drum on the roof. Have you ever needed medical attention in say Mai Pais? Clinic hasn't had new sheets for years, walls need paint, just a little sketchy.

Random drug tests for anyone over the age of 18 when they are on free insurance at the doctors office when they show up for their illness. Treat them for that illness with the insurance and then drop the insurance for a period of 12 months allowing them to reapply and pee in the cup again at that time. Dope is the scourge of the underclass, keeping them from productivity, binding them in the chains of addiction. Same thing with food stamps. No one has the balls to do it, but it should be done.

thats the problem ,obama put so many people on government programs that we the tax payer will never get cheap insurance. we must pay for the 49% of babies born here that go on welfare at birth. if 10-15 million of those bums would get jobs we'd be able toget a affordable plan.

I wouldn't be foolish enough to argue that point with you. You are without a doubt correct. But what do you think would happen if 100 million other Americans bit the bullet and refused to pay the jacked up insurance rates due to the jacked up hospital and drug costs? Within 6 mo's we would all have value appropriate insurance rates.

Also I will add that when you pay cash out of your pocket like I do instead of going thru insurance, suddenly the rates are both reasonable and logical for what was done if you look around for offices that know how to deal with cash payments. Wonder why that is?

Think pre existing conditions. Before the aca people couldn't get coverage, and insurance was actually insurance. Now, you can eat yourself to death and walk into the doctors and say gimmie dat, and force everyone else to pay for your gluttony either via Medicaid or an insurance pool.

Calvin is spot-on. Obesity is the biggest threat to our country, dwarfing say ISIS. Childhood obesity even more so. Look at a picture of kids in the 60's or 70's. Compare that to a herd of current kids. It's stunning.

These are the people we are counting on to be functional adults someday, and they are waddling around the playground at age 7, 8 or whatever. To put it simply and bluntly: they are FÜCKED. If you are obese in 2nd grade you will be on disability before you are 30 and they'll be cutting off diabetic body parts at public expense before 40.

It is grotesque how fat people let their kids get.

My wife works at an elementary school. It does not make me feel very good about the future of America. But it isn't just the parents fault; the public school lunches are an abomination.

Some good first steps would be to stop subsiding corn and soy, and instead subsidize healthy foods, if we are going to subsidize at all. And, change things such that any .gov food assistance can ONLY be used to buy real FOOD... Oregon has a Women Infants Children food subsidy (WIC) that would be a good model. You can buy meat, broccoli, milk... REAL food... you cannot buy chips, pop, ice cream, Pizza Pockets, or any other non-food items.
