Anyone have information on the big fires burning?
I just talked with a friend in NW OK, and he said they were killers...human life, wildlife, livestock.

In KS there was only 1 human fatality that I know of. A trucker tried to back up on the highway in the smoke and ended up jackknifing his rig. He got out of the truck and ended up dying from the smoke. Lots of cattle and wildlife dead.

Big thread on the Kansas sub forum on ultimatepheasanthuntung.com about the fires.
Read an article in the Wichita paper of an accountant that went to a buddy's ranch and took 60 rounds of ammo for his rifle. He ran out of ammo putting cows out of their misery.
Single digit humidity, 40 mph winds, and several years of good rainfall that grew lots of grass led up to a perfect storm last week.

The fires here in the TX panhandle were about 10 days ago. 4 people were killed in TX, homes burned, several thousand head of cattle killed. All of that is just an hour or two north of me.

over 780,000 acres burned in OK so far. Livestock losses are staggering.

Old college buddy of mine lives south of Fowler, KS, and has been fighting the fire. Said his cousin lost everything including home and 400 head of cattle. Sandy country down there and if some rain doesn't come soon and winds come instead, it'll be another dirty thirties scenario. As was mentioned above, guys looking for ammo. to put down cattle that are badly burned. A bad, BAD deal.
Laws aren't preventative measures. In other words, more laws won't prevent gun crime from happening.

My brother has his in laws farm and farm stead in Ness county, Ks. All of his pastures and wheat stubble are burned off. The farmstead lost a barn and several other buildings and a cedar tree shelterbelt. Also lots of wood fence posts are gone. Some how the house did not burn. This burn was 7-8 days ago.

Our shop sits on Hwy 83. The number of semi's loaded with donated hay, fencing supplies, and everything else you can imagine that have been rolling past headed north the last week has been staggering. Yesterday morning I watched a convoy of 11 semi's in a row loaded with round bales roll past. Ranchers are donating hay, fuel, and the trucks for hauling it up here.
Folks are donating time, taking off work to come and help build fence. It is spring break this week, and it would do ya'lls hearts good to see the number of farm kids that are coming to help build fence and clean up while they are out of school. Not all these millennials are soft city kids. There is still plenty of backbone in the heart of farming and ranching country. Hundreds, if not thousands, of miles of fence are going to have to be rebuilt.

How did these fires start? High winds and very dry conditions, nearly anything can start a fire. Power lines slapping each other (responsible for at least one of these fires), cigarette butts, a random spark from the highway, heck even static electricity can do it when it was like it was those days. And with 40-60 mph winds, once it touched off there isn't anything you can do except try and protect a few structures, and try to keep it from rolling across towns.

I heard the fire at Perryton, TX was contained at 315,000 and some acres - 492+ square miles, or 1/3 the size of Rhode Island. Massive loss of livestock - haven't heard about human lives. I believe they lost 2 homes, along with many out buildings, and thousands of miles of fence.
Prayers of recovery sent.

Why is there 0 coverage of this on the national news?
Grammar is important. Capitol letters are the difference between "helping your Uncle Jack off a horse" & "helping your uncle jack off a horse".

Why is there 0 coverage of this on the national news? Because it happened in Red states. We sure as hell heard about that CA dam break that didn't break though..

Why is there 0 coverage of this on the national news? Good question. Too busy giving Snoop Dog and Rachel Maddow free publicity would be my guess.

The Northeast snowflakes are having snow. In the NYC news Mecca that's all that matters.
