After 2 decades of hunting with a 6x42 on a SA M700 sporter in a macmillan mountain stock I'm having to 'upgrade' to a new 8x50 as my eyes are ageing.

I'm wondering if I might take the opportunity to change stocks. My friends tell me the more vertical pistol grips and higher adjustable comb will be a help in field positions using sticks.

I'm not a deer sniper - 300yds max and 99% 225yards or shorter. I shoot a lot off sticks. I don't use a bipod and I move from fields to woods and back. I'll take an advantage from an equipment upgrade if there is one to be had.

Do people find these stocks easier to shoot in the field?

And finally the wording makes it sound as if the warden has a bigger fore end than the scout. The dimensions seem the same from the info so is it shape? It's for a standard rem sporter profile.

Will be sad to see the old stock go - it's bblack worn through to grey undercoat worn through to the underlying fibreglass.

The shape of the Game Warden, and Game Scout forend are different.

The GS has the more traditional, rounded forend. The GW has a flatter profile on the bottom which makes it a little more conducive to shooting off a bag or rest.

I never thought I'd grow up to be a grumpy old man, but I did, and I'm killin' it.
