All:

I was in Kodiak Island Alaska a few years ago on a brown bear hunt. While there, I met this guy and we built a pretty solid relationship on guns. My influence on him has been 99s. He is a pretty famous brown bear guide/hunter. If you are from Alaska, you might know him. If you are from Kodiak, you definitely do.

Anyways, I got him going on 99s and he has taken the bait hook, line and sinker. I got these two pics from him tonight.

You'd be surprised how many Kodiak bear guides are named Mike - but I found him!

Thanks for sharing the pics. Shows what skilled hunters can do with simple tools.

Another cool thing about this guy. His backup gun for brown bear guiding is a Winchester Model 71.

Unless he owns a unicorn, it'll be a 348 Winchester.

I don't suppose it's a carbine?

Fug,Didn't you get a moose with your 33. cal 71 deluxe?? I got one of the original 71 wildcats in 450 Alaskan that was made by Harold Johnson from Coopers landing Alaska, blown out 348 case with over 4000 ft.lbs of muzzle energy. they are a pretty desirable brown bear backup gun !! grin grin

Don
I do have a wildcat 450 Alaskan and I did shoot a moose with with the 33 and some drunks shot the bull that was with the cow I shot the bull was hit several times and they could not finish it with the gun they had so I handed them the 33 to put the poor thing to sleep the people with me I think would have shot them if they had not finished off the moose
