Is there an adjustment to lighten the trigger?or do you have to replace it.

Yes there is. There is a small allen screw in the trigger. It may be hard to turn at first on a new rifle as I think Ruger glue/locktite it.

There are two screws. The manual says not to mess with them. I don't know which is which at present, but once I figure that out, I probably will tweak mine just a bit, or replace it with the one EABCO sells.
What fresh Hell is this?

I tweaked the trigger on my 1A .303 and lightened it a bit but I would have been happy as it was. The trigger on my 1S 9.3x62 was excellent so I left it alone. Both triggers were very good as they came from the factory which is a credit to Ruger.
I can't for the life of me remember which allen screw I adjusted to lighten the trigger (front or rear??), a sign of old age creeping up, so I won't even make a half remembered guess. Try a google search and you'll get an answer I'd say.

The front screw adjusts the trigger return spring tension (sort of) and the rear screw is the overtravel adjustment.
