While I have plenty of guns, my wife decided to surprise me with a Remington 870 12 gauge, full camo, pistol grip. I guess it's a super express since it takes the 3.5" shells. I am a rifle guy though I shoot a few ducks and geese every year. I have been curious about mounting holo-sights for turkey hunting. I'm not looking for any magnification... just a little different sight picture than the bead. Any suggestions?

Hampstead - Tried the Holosight (original). Uglier mounted than thought it would be. Also did not "fit" for me to get down on the comb of stock, too high above line of sight with cheek weld on comb. Tried the smaller Holosight, and another type can not recall name of, believe it was developed for tactical use (it was very small and not real ugly on shotgun).
They all performed as claimed.
But: Found them to be fragile for - lenses scratching over time with use from brush, dust, grit, etc. And very susceptible to hard knocks, bumps from accidents, falls, rough treatment.
Found the tube type red dots a lot more durable, and not quite as ugly on shotgun, but that probably relates to looking more scope like for my taste.
Just my thoughts, sure other's thoughts may be different.

Hampstead,
Hopefully Dawn2Dusk will respond to this thread. He has customized several 870's and I'm sure he can give you some hints with scope mounting, scope type, etc. Never tried a Holosight myself, I've always been happy with the 1" tube red dots. Put the red dot on the red neck and squeeze off!!!

I thought about a holosight till I noticed how high you had to raise your head to see through it. The base they use is not a good platform for a shoulder mounted firearm, but a hand held.

Look at the Zeiss holosight--it can be mounted lower than the Bushy and works off Tritium and batteries, so you never are without a sight if the batteries fail.

I decided to go with a "Nikon Red Dot" and it works like a CHAMP! Just like this (unshot) target shows the aiming DOT, that's the same look I get with my red dot when I'm turkey hunting. I just put the dot on his neck and squeeze! When you have a gun that patterns tight, you want a good sighting picture...

I wish they weren't so pricey...it seems that fiber-optics are the best bet for me right now.
