I have a Kreghoff Drilling that a guy brought back from Germany after the war . He found it in the bottom of an old Cole mine that he was searching . Its a 16x16 x 8x57JR .318 I took it back to Germany and had a gunsmith put a Schmidt & Binder scope on it . Hunt and back pack with it all the time . Love the little gun .

Here's my Merkel - 16 over 7x57R I use the other set of 16 ga. barrels for serious bird hunting and the combo barrels for "long aimless walks with gun in hand" - although I did shoot a pretty nice whitetail buck with it this year. I like the versatility of the two barrel set.

I have a CZ 584 in 12ga over 7x57R. Good shooter, especially for turkey and deer.
I passed on a 6 lb Sauer drilling a few years ago, 16 ga x2 over 8x57R. Not beautiful, but handy as heck. Kicked myself ever since.
An old dog don't run no trails, an old dog don't flush no quails, but he can still bury a bone.

Carlos-shoulda grabed it. Combo guns are my "thing", and I take most of my game with my 16ga-8X57jr drilling. I have other gauge/caliber choices in drillings, but the 16/8X57JR is the classic three barrel IMO.

I've been looking for a good useable combination gun or even better a drilling, but haven't been able to find many for sale. Can anyone point me to any specific sights with a collection of such rifles? I've sent an e-mail to Heym USA, but I haven't yet heard back from them. Their products looks to be good quality for what they are charging...

Savage99, The Remington CoreLokt bullets used in their 8x57 ammunition are slightly undersized and soft, and the ammunition is a mild load, so the bullets will work safely in a .318 or .323 bore rifle. I shoot them in my 1890 vintage Mauser.
As long as you keep the same sort of lower pressures, they will work in your older 8mm combo or drilling.

Twin,
I have the exact same sight on my Sauer cape gun two barrel set. The 12ga/8X57JR set has these sights, plus scope in claw mounts.
I love your Sauer!

luv2safari: Combo,
Is the Savage a TIKKA made gun? If it is the one I think it is, it is very well made and has a hammer. No, the 389 was made by Marocchi of Italy and marketed by Savage in the late 1980's and early 1990's. It's hammerless and was offered in 12x.222 or .308 only. I bought mine for $450 nearly new and wish that I'd picked up a .308 at the same time. Shooting the .222 is like using a laser beam.

OK...I know which one. I had one about 15 years ago in 12ga and 308. It was well made and exceptionaly accurate, so I gave it to my best hunting buddy... Mine was double trigger and was not marked Savage, but it was the same gun. I have a Marocchi made Tikka 412S in 12 & 9,3X74R that is my all around African hunting gun when I can only bring one gun. I have a second set of 9,3X74R o/u barrels for it and 12 stacked. They make good firearms.
