I bought a 1903-A3 a few years back mainly for the trigger(Canjar Set)! Its a Flaig Ace- 24"-Heavy Target/Varmit- 22-250 Remington with 1:14" Twist!
What bullets will stabilize? Seems like my other 22-250's have 1:12 which shoots 45-55gr really well.
Any Thoughts?

You'll need to stay away from monometals for sure and probably 50gr or less with lead core bullets. I picked up a M700 off GB a few years ago in 223 that had a 1 in 14 barrel. Since lead free bullets are required here I got it to shoot so so with 36gr Barnes Varmint Grenade it keyholed everything else. Put a Douglas 1 in 8 on it and it shoots great now.

Blacktailer, I was running some load data on this 22-250 and noticed on Hodgdon's website, they have used a 1:14 for their test rounds. That seems very strange to me. Do you remember trying any 55gr when you had your bbl? http://www.hodgdonreloading.com/data/rifle How long have you been forced to shoot non-lead bullets? Sounds expensive! I have very little experience with them. Are they capable of extreme velocities? Thanks, Brett

You problem with a 1-14" is bullet length not weight. The 64gr Winchester power point flat base is .805" long and shoots very well out of my 1-14" 22-250. Switch to a 55gr Ballistic tip boat tail at .810" and it will not stabilize. The 70gr Speer semi pointed flat base is .790" and shoots pretty well.

Thanks, Brett Brett, Once I realized that the rifle had a 1 in 14 I replaced it because I wanted the option of shooting heavier bullets. The area where I live in CA is supposed to be condor range (I have never seen one in 63 years and don't know anybody who has) and has been under a no-lead rule for big game bullets for 25 years or so. The entire state is going lead free in the next couple of years for everything. Been using Barnes for many years and the newer TSX and TTSX shoot same velocity as any other bullet and IME are very accurate. Best, Russ

14 inch twist in the 22-250 will typically stabilize all of the cup and core bullets up to and including the 60 gr Hornady sp and the 63 gr Sierra semi-pointed.
The exception is the 60 gr ballistic tip. I could not push it fast enough to gain the RPM needed for stability in my Savage 12.
