Does anyone here have any experience with the Remington VTR series (esp. in 223)?
What did you think of it? Pros/cons?

I had one in 243. Decent shooter. Louder than it should've been due to the ports in the barrel.
I wouldn't buy another, especially in 223, which needs a brake even less than a 243.
If you want a heavy barreled remmy I'd say just get the Sps tactical, or an LTR if you want a nicer stock.
Or do what I did and buy a tikka varmint 223 with an 8 twist..
Just my $.02

I have one in 223. It's a pretty consistent 0.7 shooter, often less. I'm using 60 grn Hornady V-Max, and Sierra 69 grn Match King.
I did replace the stock with a B&C, that's the only upgrade.
I do agree, it is loud. I'd rather just not have the ports. Overall a decent rifle.

This is my 223. The prior owner had already gotten the ports cut off when I got it, thank goodness. It's in a High Tech Specialties stock with PT&G bottom metal. The target is 3 shots at 100yds with the Hornady 55gr SP over 27gr TAC in Lapua brass and CCI 450s at 3200fps. That same load with cheap Fed brass shot around an inch. I keep meaning to try some different bullets with a better BC to stretch it out, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Those who must raise their voice to get their point across are generally not intelligent enough to do so in any other way.

My brother has a VTR in 204. It shoots well enough. I put it in a HS take off stock from a XCR CT and added PT&G drop in bottom metal with the plastic mag. I'm not a fan of the ported triangular barrel. Have you looked at a LTR or XCR Compact Tactical in 223? Both are 1:9 twists. I'd go that route.
In the case of the LTR, for $100 more you get a $350 stock upgrade over the VTR.
For the record the plastic PT&G plastic mags feel super cheap.

I have one in 223, its ok. A bit heavy to haul around but pretty accurate. I got it years ago maybe ~ 2008 or 09 thinking id shoot coyotes with it, never did. Never got rid of it though.

I had one in 308, actually kind of liked it. I bedded the cheap factory stock (nothing to lose) and put a Timney trigger in it. I loved that trigger. It shot a 165gr Sierra HPBT Gameking over 46.5gr of CFE-223 powder consistently under an inch. I never liked the 90 degree bolt throw and sold it for a threaded Tikka CTR when I got a suppressor.

I have one in 22-250. It's the Cabelas model with a 24 inch barrel and no brake. Out of the box it shot .5 MOA using Hornady factory ammo. With my hand loads I got it down to 0.24!!! It is the most accurate rifle I own.

DakotaDeer: I have two Remington 700 VTR's. One in 223 Remington and the other in 243 Winchester. They are BOTH on my "do not sell" list. Accurate and fair looking - I personally would not have engineered that muzzle thing onto the triangle (stiff?) barrel - but they are what they are. Good luck if you decide to try one.
