Some area up there are a conduit for drugs to the NYC. My daughter just finished pharmacy school up that way, and really does not want to stay in that area. So I think it is wise to look around up there.

Wyoming county is a huge step above Lackawanna. Avoid Scranton like the plague.

Not a bad area, stay away from Wilkes-Barre. Drugs ruin a lot of good towns.

I live about 20 min from clarks summit, and about 25 from Tunkhannock. Clarks Summit is more of an upper middle class area, with housing developments everywhere. Tunkhannock is more rural, once you get out of town it's just houses in the country. Definitely different vibes.

If you haven't found it already, look for the Pa. Firearms Owners Assoc. website ( http://www.pafoa.org/). There's some folks on there that live in the area you're asking about. More gun related than this website but lots of good folks and lots of Pa. gun law info. Dale

I think the Tunkhannock district has a decent reputation as far as I know.

Tunkhannock has one of the better rural school systems in the area, I have nieces and nephews going there now.
Depending where near Clark Summit you are talking you could also end up in the Dallas School district. Dallas to Clark Summit is about 21 miles. A lot of folks live in Wyoming or Luzerne Counties and commute to jobs near Scranton rather then live there.

My job pulled me away from that area 25 years ago but my family roots in that area go back to the 1600's.
Best memory of growing up in Wyoming county was all the schools closing for the first day of Buck season!

It's been 25 years, but Keystoneben pretty much hit the nail on the head. Clark Summit = more upscale, close to the expressway, a little over two hours from "the city". Tunk has good schools and more of a small town flavor to it. Continue going west on PA 6, south on 87, or north on 267, you get more of the country appeal. Good folks in Wyoming County. FWIW, Tunk is only 10 or 15 minutes from Springville, home of Borden Rifles. 90 minutes from Eurooptic in Montoursville and maybe 2 hours from Williamsport 1000 yard Benchrest Club. If your move is related to "Charmin" shoot me a PM. Might could hook you up with some locals...

I don't think I'd worry about flooding unless you lived right on the river. Where are you moving from??

Orion thanks the move is not related to charmin, it's due to the fact the refinery I work in is shutting down and there are natural gas jobs available in the area

Yeah I hear you, gotta find what works well for you. The Lackawanna trail district is Midway between Tunkhannock and clarks summit, that has a decent rep as well.
I was just saying the hills and mountains around the river, don't really allow it to get outta hand except in a few select areas.

As long as you don't buy a house on a river flat, or a creek flat, no worries with flooding.
If you have girls, Tunkhannock and Wyalusing school districts both (used to) have excellent girls fast pitch softball programs. Age 10 thru H.S. A friend's oldest daughter earned a decent college scholarship for pitching fast pitch at Tunk.
