Anybody shot the Thompson Encore? Have any opinions on accuracy and dependability let me know!!! Thanks!!!

I have two frames and several barrels They are dependable and accurate The ease of changing from one caliber barrel to another is simple and very nice feature. Highly recommend them!

All of my barrels shoot under 1" for 5 shots at 100yds, with some doing a whole lot better than that!

The pistols are well know for their accuracy, more so than the rifles. Never heard of a dependability problem.

On another note, do any of you have a hammer spur? read somewhere(not sure where) about weight being added causing misfires? was thinking about sending mine back to TC for the installation of the swing-hammer. need to do it before I have my trigger worked on though, read on their site that if it's been modified they will return it to factory specs but would give you back your "modified" parts. Also LW, why does the pistol shoot better than the rifle? or do you mean comparative to other pistols? and other rifles? not sure I understood, curious since I have a rifle.

I have hammer extentions on my Encore's. Got them from Mike Bellm They work great and no problems with the few ounces of extra weight. His are made of Aluminum, not steel .
My rifle barrels shoot excellent I replaced the hinge pins with a 1X pins from Mike Bellm. That really tightened up the barrel to action. Makes a world of difference in accuracy.
Did my own trigger job and reduced trigger pull to a clean 2&1/2 lbs with no creep .
I went to a laminated forearms, which I pillar bedded so no part of the foream touches the barrel or the action. My rifle barrels all shoot better than I can hold them. Under 3/4" for 5 shots a 100yds for most of them, some shoot 1/2" or under when I do my part!

I use hammer spurs from Mike Bellm, They are made of aluminum and have no effect on the operation of the rifle. I went to laminated forearm and stock , Pillared bedded the forearm so no part of the barrels nor frame contact the wood. I replaced hinge pins with 1X poins fron Bellm, Made a world of difference in barrel to frame match up .

Every rifle needs some TWEEKING and the T/C Encore/Pro Hunter is no different. I do beleieve the Pro Hunter barrels are having a better ACCURACY track record the standard encore. T/C did a change in manufacturing and it has worked.

Dagriz gave you some good advise. Follow it and your rifle will shoot.

My message is always the same. I have hi dollar Wby Mark V's, Remington's and Ruger's. THe 280 & 7 Wby Encores go hunting while the other sit in the safe.

I am getting ready to pick up a TC Pro hunter in .25-06 I believe to be the first barrel. My buddy has a pro hunter he got around last November with a .270 barrel and it shoots under .75 at 100yds with 5 shots. And that is with factory loads. Great shooter. Love the feel of it with the thumbhole stock. I am going to pick one up in the next week or so. Love the idea of changing the barrels.

The T/C Enocre/Pro Hunter system is not perfect. Most rifles need some after market parts and tweeking to get them to our liking and the T/C Encore is no different. The Encore trigger has a very workable trigger down to 1 pound if you so desire and replacement springs etc. are available from Mike Bellm. If the Encore has a design weakness it is in the hinge pin. A Mike Bellum replacement pin in 1X or 2X over size tightens up the torque created between the barrel and frame upon firing. At $9.00 per hinge pin it certainly wont break the bank.

Accuracy issues have plagued the Encore. As a single shot the head spacing issues are generally the culprit. All single shots including the Ruger #1 and the Encore have a different set of rules in regard to correct headspacing and accuracy.
More often accuracy issues are blamed on the barrel quality
rather than headspacing.

The Encore as a muzzleloader is extremely accurate. In my area the Encore is "KING" as a muzzleloader and 1 inch groups are very common with the 9 or 10 Encores I have worked with.

In 2006 was the first year that the Encore/Pro hunter centerfire rifle sales SURPASSED muzzleloading sales. Ruger can't even come close to touching this in numbers and the Ruger #1 is only $50.00 more than the T/C Encore. Ruger has fallen asleep in such a fine rifle. I have seen more Ruger #1 magazine ads the last 30 days than the last 5 years.

I would rarther have a T/C barrel and customer service behind the product than Ruger. I do own both. T/C has had some issues cutting chambers in their centerfire rifles barrels and they have implemented some manufacturing changes to correct this. These changes are evident in the pro hunter centerfire barrels for 2006. They as a group have performed accuracy wise extremely well. I have read more reports of sub inch groups with factory ammo as well as handloads than complaints with the barrels.

I would rather take my chances with an Encore shooting well
