A friend is looking to replace the magazine in a 1911 - 9mm. The pistol is a Star. Would it take a "normal" 1911 magazine, or would it be an oddball, like a Llama?

Star made millions of 9mm pistols on modified 1911 plans. As far as I know, none of them use standard 1911 mags.

The Star magazines are not interchangeable with 1911 mags. The Star mags are still available in the aftermarket, but they are different in the different cartridge configurations (Model A vs B) and in successive generations of the pistols (e.g., Modelo Super vs Mod B, even though both are offered in 9x19, 9x23, etc).

The Star is not a 1911 , no parts interchange.

Mike This. It always amuses me how many people think a Star is a 1911, just because they look sorta similar.
