Dick was a neighbor and good friend. I chatted with him just two weeks ago. He will be missed!

He was really a special guy. I talked with him and his wife in the Sam's Club parking lot for 2 hours once. He shared stories about hunting all over the world. I am sure that he is hunting in the happy hunting ground of the thereafter.

Good guy with a serious Ruger Bearcat collection. He used to come to the Alaska Gun Collectors Shows. Serious case of Lyme Disease. Very sad.

Dick and Ethel had nearly 200 Bearcats including some miniatures. When they sold off the collection it seemed Ethel was shipping guns daily.

Lyme disease, wow. Did not really realize that could be fatal.

Dick didn't die of the Lyme Disease but he had issues with it for a long time. Over the past couple years Dick had strokes and recent surgery for a broken hip.

Gotta tell another story on Dick as I know he wouldn't mind.

A few years ago, we were in the coffee shop and Dick was lamenting about his macular degeneration had ruined his hunting and that Ethel had to do all the shooting for him.

He then asked if I could check with my farmer buddy about shooting a yak bull. A quick call got us a deal to remove the meanest old bull from the herd as he had been in the breeding cycle too long. I was to be the Master Yak Guide.

With Ethel in the back seat we drove around in the herd until we cut out that old bull [aka Bodacious] and moved him away from other yaks. I drove within 5o yards but Dick couldn't see him so I eased him toward a rise in the pasture and backed off. We now had him sky-lined and Dick could see him. Opening the window and hanging his 454 Casull out, he then asked me which way he was facing.

I advised that his head was on the left while I was reaching for my 375 as I figured we were about to have a wounded ornery yak bull on our hands. One shot and he dropped stone dead! Dick jumped out to give him another and the other bulls came to kick our asses. I pushed Dick back in the truck and we went after the tractor/loader. They stayed up most of the night skinning that bugger on their skinning rack.

Dick had it measured for Rowland Ward and claimed it to be #5! Gotta look for that pic.

Not anything I'd want to do, but I have nothing but positive memories from the time we met them!

Real sorry to hear about Dicks passing. I sure enjoyed the time I spent around him and Ethel in Big Horn Guns and Ammo as a kid. They were a couple of characters always sharing stories and pictures.

I recently had a telecon with Ethel and all is well with her.
As usual, she has been at their hunting camp and she's
trying to bag a turkey with her crossbow. She got a buck
and two turkeys last fall.
