He's floating the idea through his surrogates that he wants to fire Robert Mueller. Technically, he can't do that. Only Acting Attorney General Rod Rosenstein can do that, and for very limited reasons.
Trump can fire Rosenstein and put someone in his place who will fire Mueller.
Congress would likely bring back Independent Counsel law (and re-hire Mueller to be Independent Counsel), but this takes time.
Trump's advisers are frantically trying to talk him out of this move, but Trump does what he wants.
We'll see what the week brings. With Sessions testifying tomorrow it could piss Trump off to do something ill advised.

who thought for a second, that a lefty former FBI director could be 'impartial'. Republicans better wake up and realize they control the government, and need to make more intelligent decisions.

He may have to fire Sessions first, then appoint an new AG who can fire Mueller.

Yeah it would be a shame to fire Mueller especially considering he is azzhole buddies with Comey. No conflict of interest at all is there?

Mueller needs evidence before his position is a hindrance, along with the fact that not a single Republican in congress opposed his appointment...firing him would be a large tactical error on Mr.T's part.

It was pure insanity to ever appoint Mueller, who's ever idea it was. If Trump didn't condone it, he shouldn't have been put in place; if he did, he fu^cked up big time, but it's easier to hire than to fire for sure.
No win now for Trump as he's painted himself into a very small corner.
The man really needs to start thinking through everything he does instead of acting the the rash spoiled brat that he has been.

Mueller and his co-special prosecutor Comey who both just happen to have a record of prosecutor aggressiveness and getting a lot of people convicted of you guessed it "obstruction of justice". He put one guy in jail for a single ambiguous email and let clinton walk with hundreds of emails. I would not blame Trump if he wanted someone besides Mueller who is Comey's buddy. The fix is in.

Mueller needs to go. Rosenstein appointed a man who was suckbuddies with Comey. There is nothing independent about mueller. The very admission that coney discussed his testimony with mueller prior to Thursday's hearings means that the two are too close.
I don't know the firing order but every Obama appointee needs to be replaced. The longer they stay, the worse things get for America.

This^^^. The rule is he has to be impartial, not even the APPERANCE OF IMPARTIALITY and Mueller is Comeys buddy. Well covered by Hannity and Jay Sekulo on radio today and will be tonite on tv i expect. No law broken. As per Comey. No collusion. No obstruction.

The bottom line with respect to Mueller and the conflict of interest (according to Gregg Jarrett from Fox): 'The law governing the special counsel (28 CFR 600.7) specifically prohibits Mueller from serving if he has a “conflict of interest.” Even the appearance of a conflict is disallowed. "The same Code of Federal Regulations defines what constitutes a conflict. That is, “a personal relationship with any person substantially involved in the conduct that is the subject of the investigation or prosecution” (28 CFR 45.2). Comey is that person. He was substantially involved in the conversation with President Trump which may be the subject of an obstruction investigation. In fact, the former Director is the only other person involved. There were no witnesses beyond himself. A conflict of interest is a situation in which an individual has competing interests or loyalties. Here, it sets up a clash between the special counsel’s self-interest or bias and his professional or public interest in discharging his responsibilities in a fair, objective and impartial manner. His close association with the star witness raises the likelihood of prejudice or favoritism which is anathema to the fair administration of justice. Mueller has no choice but to disqualify himself. The law affords him no discretion because the recusal is mandatory in its language. It does not say “may” or “can” or “might”. It says the special counsel “shall” recuse himself in such instances." The best justice would be for Mueller to find nothing and have to admit it.
