Has anyone tried RL-26 in a 30-338 Win Mag or a 308 Norma Mag ?

Sorry can't help you but works great in the 300WM.

Tejano,

Thanks, I thought someone may have tried it. Seems like it might be worth a look.

What weight bullet are you using in your 300WM ?

I'm using Alliant book recipe with 180 TSX and Hornadays. It really works well with the 215 VLD bullets according to reports but I have not tried it.

You could start with 7mm rem mag 175 gr. loads as a starting point and stop at about 90-95% of the velocity listed for the 300WM.

Thanks,

Just got components gathered up but too hot for bench work. If I go early when it's cool the mosquitoes drive me crazy.

I'll wait for a cool spell.

Maybe some one else will offer some info.

What weight bullet you intending to use. I've used R19 in my 30 Newton, which is the same thing as the 30-338, and pushed 168s at 3400 and 180s at 3200 fps. I think R26, unless using really heavy bullets kind of a waste. If you go to Alliant they have a free reload chart there. Also, on Accuratereloading.com, they have a reloaders section and I was just there and some handloads for the 30-338. I'll go look at my reloading data and get back with you.

Just went to Alliant's site and they don't have the 30-338 listed.

Okay, went to my Chrono results, and see I was using 4350, couldn't find the R19. Using 75 grs of 4350 and a 180gr got 3200. 30-338 a very efficient case. I'll have to check some more for the Alliant loads, as may have just overlooked it.

Is the .30-338 one of those magic cases that get more velocity than larger cases?

Magic indeed. I am leaning hard on the 300Win Mag to get 3100 and even the 300 Bee you better hold on to your hat once you reach 3200.
