Heard from several sources that folks will be appalled when the victims names are given at the Delta Junction maulings... If one of them is the giant Russian "woman/Yeti" that runs the pizza place in Delta I feel sorry for the bear.

Brings up another interesting question, do LEOs in AK carry 9mm, or do most carry bigger for off-chance wildlife encounters?

From what Ive seen, most go to 12ga. In that instance.

It was in the late '70's that a geologist in AK was attacked by a black bear. She survived the attack but lost both of her arms. I doubt the limbs grew back. In the bear's defense however, her last name was Bacon, so I guess it should have been expected.

It is stupid to shoot a bear in the face. Their skull is pointed, and the bullet may just glance off of the skull.
Best to get a chest shot.
I wonder if it was an Affirmative Action ranger.

First of all bear attacks in alaska are not rare buck they are common. Bears sleep all winter and they attack anywhre fron 5 to 20 people a summer. The death rate is low but that doesnt mean people like to be mauled or threatened. Bear spray is ineffective. Carry a gun inn ak for bear protection.

Hunter's regularly harvest 500 pounder's up here in Northern Wisconsin. I watched a Game biologist remove a tooth from a Old sow that was pushing 600 before dressing. Don't have anything but Black Bears up here. I wish our DNR would issue more Bear tags. We have way too many around here. About 6 or 7 years ago I hit one with my car, (or I should say it hit my car) on the left front fender and caused $4,500 damage. It did a somersault in front of my car, got up, shook it's head and went off into the woods. I doubt if it even got a headache. Easy enough to find a 600 pounder here... They are usually riding the carts at WalMart...

Yep, I try to get all my aggressive charging bears to stop broadside, angled slightly away so I can drop a few through the lungs and out the shoulder on the off side and then dump one in the ear butt.... You take what you get. Bear skulls are not any different than many other skulls... and so you take what is presented and hope for the best.
We can keep Larry Root and all his idiotic blabber and user names on here, but we can't get Ralph back..... Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over....
