Which lube do you use on your autos?

Dave

I'll ask you a couple of questions that if you really think about it you can answer the oiling or lube question for yourself. How many 30 round magazines per minute do you run through your autos? And if it's even possible that you go out and run multiple 30 round magazines through your autos per minute, which would you worry about first, ruining your barrel, or your receiver? Approximately how many rounds do you fire before you feel your barrel should be cleaned to maintain accuracy? Whatever that number is wipe the action down briefly with a cleaning solvent at the same time and you are good to go.

You seem pretty savvy on all things firearms so I'll answer your questions in hopes of receiving an answer to my question.

1.) Bunches

2.) Niether

3.) I never feel my barrel should be cleaned (not a dick reference)

4.) Wipe down the action?

An E6 taught me how to clean my M-16 in nothing flat by holding it under the shower nozzle with the water on full blast and as hot as it would go. Rinse out the upper and lower, shake out whatever loose water would come out and the rest would evaporate in a few moments from the hot metal. Lube and continue to march.

Everybody else would spend an hour with q-tips and pipe cleaners trying to clean every nook and cranny with so-so results. Five minutes in the shower and my weapon always got rated "outstanding!".

I only know this much:
1) Never mix petroleum and synthetic lubricants
2) Fancy gun lubes are BS, just use Mobile 1 10w30 or 20w50

Well, Mike, nobody knew it was canola oil until after it was on the market for some time. And, deflave said it was great stuff. Lot's of info on the web about the controversy if you're actually curious.

I was curious about Go-Juice after seeing your post. Unfortunately, it appears to be FIREClean ver. 2.0

Cardiologists just came out a week or so back saying cocnut oil would clog your arteries.

Wonder if it clogs your AR as well? wink

No I'm not particularly savvy on firearms, there's a lot of people know more than I do about particular things related to guns than I do. It's just the older I get I try to rely on common sense and experience instead of chasing the bright shiny objects. That's not directed at you but me.

The answer to your question is none. I use a very light oil to wipe down guns and parts to protect them when they are put away.

My wife came back recently from a weekend with her girlfriends who are all in their late 50's and early 60's. Appears there is a very good use for coconut oil as a natural lubricant. No report to follow

I just cleaned 5 handguns and used this stuff on them. Sure wish I would have seen this thread before I did that.

Actually, Barry, they came out with that 40 or so years ago. 5 or so years ago they discovered it reduces/retards plaque formation in the brain responsible for Alzheimers and now they sell it in capsule form for that reason. It seems to be effective along with ginger and Turmeric.
