Is it the same barreled action as a Montana but wearing a cheaper stock?

Thanks,

Not quite, it also has a detachable magazine and it isn't threaded.

I don't know how it feeds, but the mag seems well executed.

If there was aftermarket support for stocks I'd buy a hunter or two just for the barrelled action, but I don't like plastic, and I really don't like detachable magazines (something to lose)

I have one that Mrs. Tide has claimed. At first I was put off by the trigger guard being plastic and molded into the stock, then decided that it was little different than the Tikkas that I have enjoyed for many years. The rifle is chambered for 6.5 Creedmoor and absolutely LOVES the 120 grain Sierra ProHunter. I may have gotten lucky in Kimber Roulette, but this rifle isn't going anywhere.

Reference the detachable magazine, I was formerly in the camp of those who felt that a detachable magazine was just something to lose, but in the last few years, hunting in Texas and getting in and out of the guide's vehicle and into a blind, etc, I have found that I prefer them as they are so much simpler to remove and thus, clear the rifle.

Of course, YMMV.

Yes, it is, except for the threaded barrel. I had a Montana in 308, but wanted 6.5 CM. So I bought a Hunter in 6.5 CM and swapped out the stocks, worked great!

So now you have me thinking of buying a 7mm-08 hunter so I can share the 243's Montana stock....this is going to cost me $$$ because I also have a Montana 270

old willys, my swap out only costs me around $75 because I sold the Montana action with the Hunter stock, which sold quickly here on the 24HR Free Classifieds.

Smokinggun,

What did you do for the mag box, spring, and follower?

The barreled action is identical, everything else is different. The Montana mag box, spring, follower, and the two bolts that hold the stock/action together stayed with the Montana stock that the Hunter barreled action went into. All of the parts that came with the Hunter went with that stock that the Montana barreled action went into. Triggers looked to be the same and stayed with the actions they were already on.

The swap is a five-ten minute job if you have all the tools(allen wrenches) right there.

Seems to me that Kimber could sell a lot of Montana stocks to Hunter owners who would like to upgrade.
