Getting an old Remington 760 in 300 savage setup for the upcoming whitetail/feral pig season and looking to get a few boxes of ammo. There is not much available other than Hornady 150grt Superperformance and Federal 150 or 180 grain "blue box" stuff.

I function checked the gun with a partial box of Rem Core-lokt 150 grain but I'm needing at least a couple boxes to get me through sight-in and to have a little extra on-hand.

I've never hunted with a 300 Savage rifle. For you folks with experience what would you recommend? I think accuracy would be fine with any of them...we are talking whitetails/pigs at max 150 yards with < 75 yards the norm.

Thanks,
Mike

I have an older 760 like yours also in .300 Savage. The Remington 150 grain Core-Loct is the only factory round I have fired thru mine and it is very accurate (1"-1.5"). I hunt with reloads so have no idea on effectiveness.

FWIW my 1935 Sav 99 liked the Hornady Super stuff.

They all pretty much work. Can't imagine needing a couple of boxes for sight in

I get real good accuracy from the factory Federal 180gr stuff out of all three of my 99s.

Yeah I worded that poorly......I could get through sight-in and a couple "just because" groups and still probably have enough left in a box to last through a season or two. I didn't realize though until buying this gun a few months ago that 300 Savage ammo was so hard to find so I would like to get a few boxes now and be good for awhile.

A better question would have been for those folks with a 760 is there a certain brand/grain wt. that I should be looking for?

I would buy the 150 core-lokts if I saw them.....Might have to make a drive to Katy but that is a long haul from Kingwood. Bass Pro in Pearland had the Fed 150 and 180 grain loads when I was in there last weekend - and the Hornady 150 SST/SP loads.

I will tell you mine detested the Nosler 150 BT or the Partition. Shoots the Hornady 150 grain pointed InterLock into 1.5" at 100.

Anything from a decent 150-180 is going to swat deer just fine from a 300 Savage. Deer don't take much killing. Find a good 150 load and enjoy the rifle.

My M99 shoots the Federal blue box 150s well and the 180s very, very well.
