Father time is beginning to creep up on this old porker perforator and I've decided to see if a few of my rifles will follow someone else home. I will offer it here before it goes to Gunbroker! For your consideration is a lovingly pre-enjoyed Merkel K1 Jagd Stutzen chambered for the 7mm-08 cartridge. It is in very good condition with only a few character marks. The package is inclusive of the rifle, Recknagel twist off rings, Ziess Daiavari 3-9 x 36 MC Rifle scope (American Made) and Ameri-case. Asking $2,900 shipped in the CONUS. Thanks for looking! GWB

Hey there guy! Long time no palaver. Was thinking about ya'll the other day! had a ball with you and your son. It hasn't rained that much in the desert since you left. Long time no palaver. Plan to be in Oregon in early October with my darling bride of 39 years, chasing waterfalls and light houses. Maybe we can hook up and have dinner. Best, GWB

Mercy, is that gorgeous. If I'm not mistaken, I moistened myself while holding it at the '16 24HCF hog hunt. Then again, that might have been one of its stablemates in .308... Alas, at present, funds are insufficient to consummate a direct sale on this fine piece.
HOWEVER, I'm prepared to offer you a beguiling trade opportunity: in exchange for that Merkel, I can provide you a 5 day guided squirrel hunt, complete with pack string and lodging. This prime territory is near the confluence of the Wabash and Mississinewa rivers in breathtaking Northcentral Indiana. Feasting on acorns and hickory nuts, and with ready access to four pristine farm ponds, the animals here frequently attain Boone & Crockett size by their 3rd year. If you desire, 13-striped gophers can be added as incidentals (incurring only a nominal trophy fee).
Surely this hunt-of-a-lifetime is worth parting with but one of your Merkels...

I was asked how many rounds have been fired and how does it group. Well lets see. My wife, kids and friends always get mad at me 'cause it seems I am unable to answer a yes or no question with a yes or no. So with that in mind. I had wanted a Merkel for years when I spied this on Gunbroker. It was owned by a guy at a pawn shop in Florida. He said that the guy that pawned it told him it was unfired. It did not come with the Merkel box. Next, I luv the 7mm-08 chambering. I've probably owned a dozen rifles chambered for that round. My go to load has been 43 gr. of W-748 loaded with first 140 gr. Nosler Ballistic tips and later 140 gr. Nosler Accubonds. Well it just so happened that I was to do a bear hunt with hounds in the Lincoln National Forest, with the spike camp outside Capitan New Mexico about a week after I got the rifle. Being 60 at the time, i was reasonably fit, but for this flat-lander, chasing uphill lugging a pack and 11 lbs of rifle above a certain elevation becomes less than fun. So I took this rifle to the range to see if I could get it on paper at 100 with my "go to" loads. Here are two groups I shot back to back before I went on the hunt. I figured that would do for the ranges at which I shoot. I don't recall shooting any other groups and I've perforated a number of porkers with the rifle. here is a two-fer I took with 140 gr. Accubonds at +/- 120 yds. and a couple more later on that day! I would probably be considered a heretic, as I usually only worry about groups and velocities when I'm doing load development. After that I'm basically concerned with first shot out of a cold barrel. Most times that's all i need/get! As to how many rounds down the tube. Probably less than forty. I'd imagine I shot a dozen or so when I was sighting in. Check to see if rifle is zerod' a couple times , (and yup, the recknagel mounts return to zero every time) another half dozen rounds, and perhaps another half dozen perforating hoglets. Problem with gettin' old! Too many 7mm-08's an not enough time to perforate hoglets! So, it is what it is. ya! GWB

Just fer schitz n' giggles, Would not want folks to think that Merkel's were not capable of fine accuracy! I just never took the time to wring out the 7mm-08 to see what it would do. Here is my Merkel half-stock chambered for the 9.3 x 74r. I do luv the warmth of wood, especially in a fine shooting rifle! These are the targets supplied by the guy that I bought my 9.3 x 74 half stock from! He was nice enough to send me the rifle, and a hundred or so loaded rounds of Ammo. and a couple to check zero just before my second bear hunt. Figured this short range meat hunter just might have to stretch out to 200 yds. or so, consequently I zero'd a skosh high! NIce thing about those Recknagel ringmounts. Take the rifle down and put it back together and it shoots just fine! from this year's 24hourCF hog hunt broadsided @ +/- 100 yds, this one poked his nose out at +/- 30 yds., spied me and took off. Nailed him on the run. I get a kick (literally) outta thumpin' stuff with this one. ya! GWB

Bump for a great rifle at a fair price. I shoot a (similar caliber) 7X57R K1 half stock. Mine shoots under an inch using inexpensive factory Hornady Custom ammo.
