Do not know if it is high end, but, Famous Grouse is well regarded I do not drink scotch--- so--- It's a nice everyday blend, but not a special occasion dram. But there is good reason for it to be the most popular Scotch in Scotland. Never offended by a slug of this. ;-{>8 I already said why.

It's only snobbery if you look down on someone else's choices and are generally an arsehole about it. My thing has always been beer - I've paid as much as 50 bucks for a volume of beer that wouldn't even give a guy a hangover. I explain to people that I am a beer nerd, not a beer snob as there's a difference. I can and do occasionally drink what I'd consider lower tier beers. Beers like Coors, Schlitz or PBR but I prefer that I'd rather have something a little different. What I don't do is say that if you drink only PBR/Coors/Bud Light you're a worthless person. I will say that if you drink Lime-a-rita's as a preference tho.. It's one thing to have a preference and quite another to be militant about others' preferences.

Riemann? Nah. I'm more into Lebesgue or Daniell integrals.

I tried liking Scotch, just couldn't find one the fit my taste buds! But I like to soak up the suds on good beer, ever average beer, most beer works! Hard liquor, I'll just stay with Crown Royal, good enough for this guy. Congratulations on the children!

No need to spend $500. Save some money and buy Balvenie Double Wood. 18 yr Macallan if you must spend a little more.

Oban is just excellent Scotch. Bunnahabhain 18 is also a winner.

What scotch is best with pickle juice?
I'd rather die in a BAD gunfight than a GOOD nursing home.

I'll happily slum dewars white label on occasion.

I don't have much experience with $500/bottle whisky. However, if I was to drop that much on a bottle right now I think an old expression of Bunnahabhain or Highland Park are probably good options. I'd be pretty tempted to go with an old expression of Springbank though. I haven't had higher than a 15yo sample of Springbank but what I've had is consistently interesting, complex, balanced and good.

I haven't tried the 25, but the Glenlivet 18 is a big step up from the 12.

I haven't had it either. I read some reviews and most were quite positive, the only negative noted by a couple reviewers was that had very little finish to it. I'm sure that it'll be good enough and after it's all gone, you'll have the nice oak box.
