I see your wood, I have been cutting junipers and ERC (also a juniper) all summer and will continue to cut them for about the next 15-20 years. if you ever need any let me know! some of these are pretty decent size

I saw Buckzilla across the street from home again yesterday. Dang deer's got a friggin bush on top of his head. Couldn't get the binoculars on him but I'd guess he's got at least 14 points, probably pushing 250 lbs. Man, he's a brute. Of course I can't get permission to hunt anything but 'yotes over there.

Cathy and I are planning our next outing to look at properties for our new cabin or home. Part of our searching in Wisconsin was to give our son and daughter in law a shorter commute when they went back to Indiana to visit her family. Now, he's saying that's not going to be an issue, which opens up a lot of country for us to look at. Our next outing will be much closer to the Twin Cities. We will check out several spots up in the Pine City area. Not sure weather this will start out as a permanent residence, or land and a small cabin to start with. Won't be anything that happens in time for deer season, but by next fall-who knows?

If anyone knows of vacant property or property with a cabin or ? on it, let me know. Maybe we'll be able to go check it out.

Well...I'll be damn'd boys. I have a conference call set up in 10 minutes, with Adam Murkowski, the Big Game program leader, and Deer Guru for the MN DNR.

I'll let ya know how it goes.

Yep!

Just got off the phone with him. He said there is actually a state wide youth hunt in the works. He's trying to get it passed in the new "deer plan" believe it or not, Adam said other, old school, grumpy bastard hunters are the ones that have been holding it up. He most of the cramuggeons say the kids should have to follow the same rules we had to as kids! Seriously?

We also talked about slimplifiing the deer hunting regulations. He's very much on board with that.

I thought it was a great conversation.

I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee and watching two does grazing in my neighbor's back yard. Why the deer are coming down into the neighborhood when there's corn and soy beans all over the place, I have no idea, but man, am I getting pumped up to go deer hunting. Deer season just can't come fast enough. Any of the Twin Cities guys going down to Ahlman's for the Roundup this weekend? Wish I was going, but just too much going on. Have a great weekend guys.

Good luck and best wishes to Berettaman and his Youth Outdoors Day tomorrow. It's killing me to not be going. All these health issues are really putting a crimp in my activities. My job at the event was to load smoothbore muzzle loading rifles for the black powder exhibit. Man, I'm gonna miss helping those guys out. I'd be mostly coated in black powder residue by the end of the day. It was a lot of fun to see the looks on those kids faces when those big boomers went off. I hope I feel better and can make it back next year.

Well the day is done. Whew. It was wildly successful by any measure. We could measure it by saying a new attendance record was set with 2180 kids attending. With parents and volunteers that put us over 4,000 people there. What a day.

All most had speed beef last night. A doe and two fawns (still in spots) sauntered across in frong of me. Man, am I getting the urge to hunt! Days are getting shorter, there's a little bit of coolness in the air. Time to go get that last batch of sunnies and crappies so I don't have to fish during hunting season. Neat to see the big V's of geese as they start moving around with a purpose. Can't wait to see the corn start coming in. I love to go sit on a high spot overlooking a big field and watch the equipment work as the corn comes in, and the deer are pushed back into the woods.
