If you watch National Geographic, they will lecture you on global warming.

I caught that too. It was a real shock to me.

I have about quit watching all hunting shows, just to dam Fake, Shockey I liked for the most part, but, when he left Knight for the big Cash, I think his shows wernt as good as they had been.

Times I have spoken with him he has been nothing but a joy to visit with and a gentleman of the highest order.
We visited several times over drinks and appetizers. Top notch guy.

You got that very wrong... he is tough and a bit leftie, but he is a hunting and killing and guiding machine that has proven himself repeatedly.

There are many outdoor writers that would starve, for certain, but Shockey is not one of them.

JS, is one tough middle-ager from what I can tell, including the Golden Bear episode in the Caucasus which I caught incidentally. Yes, he has a kind of a pantheistic world view, and certainly in the context of his location, without a true God-centered world view, is going to be complimentary to the humanist/socialistic founding of the land he is hunting in.

Who knows; maybe it was a requirement for getting the appropriate tag; hunting there, etc.

Give him a break. At least he is not arrowing home grown whitetails next to a feeder.

I'm just running all the various Karl Marx quotes that come to mind through my head and trying to think of how one could work them into a hunting show.

Quote
The mode of production of material life determines the social, political and intellectual life process in general. It is not the consciousness of men that determines their being, but, on the contrary, their social being that determines their consciousness.

Certainly not the sort of thing that fits easily into light banter with your guide. One doesn't just look out at a rugged terrain under a naked sky and spout: "A commodity has a value because it is a crystallization of social labor. The greatness of its value, or its relative value, depends upon the greater or less amount of that social substance contained in it; that is to say, on the relative mass of labor necessary for its production."

Nevermind that it's all gibberish. Marx just doesn't have a kind of woodsy feel to it.

He was talking about sport hunters donating meat to the locals to help prevent local poaching. . The quote was the one about "yada yada to each according to his need". Which fit the situation. Sport hunters have the means to contribute and the locals have the need for the meat. Where is the problem?

Some here are awfully thin skinned.

Some here are awfully jealous that they didn't work as hard as Jim Shockey did to have an actual paying career in a sport they "love"...

If guys don't like the show, then don't watch it. But to say that he would starve if having to hunt "like us" is just asinine. I guarantee he's a better hunter then ANYONE on 24hr, even better then BigStick...well maybe not Stumpy, but anyone else here for certain.

I'm on the same ProStaff as Jim for a company.

He never struck me as having any left leanings. Nor his daughter.
Everyone can stumble on words now and again. You can't keep 100% of folks happy 100% of the time.

I think he does pretty well though.

Is that all? That's it? Damn, people ... stop and think. Which father here did not provide for his children according to his ability, according to their need? Does that make you a Marxist? There's a time and a place for all things under the sun. Well, almost. Marxism is a crappy macro scale philosophy for a society but it is a necessary micro scale philosophy for a family. Painting stuff with too broad a knee jerk brush is foolish.

You live in a Socialist country that heavily restricts handguns and military style firearms. And no one up there really seems to take issue with that.

90% would starve if success rates in most states are correct! I like Jim, he is the only hunting show I watch! The rest are just infomercials, with some dip wad whispering! While the auto feeder whirls in the background!

Lets give him some credit. He uses a single shot muzzle loader.. It has a stainless steel barrel, synthetic stock, very good trigger, sabot's, pelleted powder, a modern scope & range finder. Is his set up more handicapped than my Ruger #1 in 45/70 using cast bullets? Better hunter than anyone on this forum, how about better funded.....

I'm sorry, correct me if I'm wrong but don't you have liberals in the US as well?

Any other expert opinions based on time actually spent here or did you gleen all your intel from the internet?

Politics aside, he has one of the best shows out there. I like seeing the hunts that I'll never be able to do. I'm sure there's some camera magic but he looks beat after some of those mountain hunts. He also shows a genuine respect for whatever he's hunting. I prefer his show to many that are basically an infomercial with a guaranteed gut shot out of a box stand while decked out in the latest Realtree and face paint.

A Doe walks out of the woods today and says, that is the last time I'm going to do that for Two Bucks.
