"My lost wilderness" by Ralph young."hell I was there" by Elmer Keith, any books by Walter bell on Africa. You sure don't have to be interested in hunting in Africa to enjoy these African hunting books. They are very interesting reading, the ones from the old days anyway. recollections of William Finaughty. The saga of Wally Johnson by capstick.

I agree re Boddington. I have American Hunting Rifles which he has since updated. I have several Barsness books as well.
The Still Hunter is one to get.

The Hunter's Rifle by Clay Harvey +1 +2 for sure! Thanks to Steelhead (and shaman!) for reminding me of this book.I gave my copy to a teenager growing up in a non-hunting & non-shooting family, and it is about time I replaced my copy! I just searched Amazon, and there are good used copies for about $US 6 (yes, six bucks including shipping, which I find hard to believe!) LINK to buy at AmazonCopies of the book which are still ok but missing the dust jacket seem to start about 2 bucks including shipping (how can they make any money after shipping with a price that low? The Hunter's Rifle by Clay Harvey Curious you should mention Clay Harvey without noting he was long ago exposed as a phony. I've gone on record here as supporting Harvey's work regardless of Harvey's shenanigans. Nowadays, you can find a copy of Harvey's book used, so you won't be giving Clay a dime to pick it up and read it. Truth of it is, most of what Harvey wrote was apocryphal, but true in a greater sense. For about a decade, I kept my copy of the Hunter's Rifle by my bed and whenever somebody wrote about a chambering or a rifle I didn't know, I'd pick up Harvey and read what he had to say about it. Harvey was my introduction to rifles like the Savage 99, and chamberings like 35 Whelen. This was in a day before the Internet and it was long before my relationship with the 24 Hour Campfire. It took until about a decade ago for me to find out there was such controversy over this guy. Yes, a lot of what he wrote about rifles was hearsay from other writers. Yes, a lot of the rifles he claimed to own were misappropriated loaners. Yes, he was probably a dastard. I did not know him, but a lot of folks here did and despised him.
