Ya know what reference book archaeologist son uses to assist in ID'ing such stuff?????
One of them reprinted Sears & Roebuck catalogues from like 1905. Used to could find em everywhere! Supppse there still in print.

some type of leveling jack? Looks like with a slotted round center shaft for the attached wedge, gives 5-6 incremental positions of fine adjustment,........probably for a short machine jack,......got something similar around here threaded 80 TPI. Sorta thing one would use on a big Horiz mill or shaper table. GTC
