Sorry ahead of time but i am put of by the lv pd response to the shooting. Poorly trained hesitant disorganized all come to mind. But 72 minutes to breach the door waiting for three swatt teams? The us marines woouldve charged the room and shot the attacker within minutes. No room for such a poorly trained and motivated force......

The police response sounds slow. 72 minutes respond. What were they doing.

If it did take 72 minutes, Someone should be on the hook for explaining where was a cop on the ground with a .223 in the car.

How much of that time was spent trying to locate the guy?

Las Vegas PD are not US Marines, they are civilian law enforcement.

Like I said in another post, kick the door down without thought and set off a fuel air bomb or some such... it would not only loose LVPD officers lives but possibly put the hotel on the ground in flames eventually..

You do have to THINK some things through sometimes.

Have you ever been in the Mandalay Bay?
I have stayed there twice for 4-5 days each.
Just finding the correct elevator bank for whichever section can be a nightmare.
The entry level/lobby/casino area is like going through a zoo in itself.

Sounds like they were pretty organized to me

That was my first thought too but I wasn't there and don't know how it played out so I'm not ready to point fingers.

There were 17 armed security guards at mandalay and two responded and one got shot in the leg. All the videos show no police shooting back at the killer. No snipers or machine guns shooting at the killer for 72 minutes. What kind of trainig and police force is lvpd. I thought a cautious wait and see response was discredited st columbine. In the florida nightclub there were armed police on the scene immediately and ordered to stay back while the shooter executed hostages. Our local police say they will storm the place immediately so get down which is what all police should do....

Aside from one over-stressed cop with too much to say and the "security guard with a wound to the leg standing by" they did seem pretty much in control...

What I'm getting from the news stories is that the actual shooting lasted for ten minutes. If true that means for the last hour of that 72 minutes no shooting of people outside of the hotel was occurring..

OK, what's to say that the shooter didn't have enough explosives on hand to take down much of the building? Just how long does it take to evacuate a hotel that size?

Give them that first ten minutes to assess the threat and locate the shooter amid the ongoing confusion and contradictory 911 calls pouring in. After that they were ready to roll on the 32nd floor of a hotel in the amount of time lots of us have for lunch.

Maybe I'm too forgiving I dunno.

Hey, all them hotel guests downrange woulda just been unavoidable collateral damage. Not likely anyway, I'm pretty sure I can land all my shots over iron sights in the dark while shooting at the head of a guy 200 yards or more uphill behind his rifle Pretty sure most Cops can too, even though we know most of them only shoot enough every year to qualify. It'd be like the sniper scene in Saving Private Ryan, except further away, without a scope, in the dark.

I am one of those hesitant to point fingers because I wasnt there. However one of the security guards located him and got shot while he was still active...not too hard to figure out where he was. As I understand the shooting stopped in about 9 minutes ( presumably the guy killed himself then...) and it was a full hour before the door was breached. If indeed thats the case, there needs to be some " Old School" active shooter training going on. I don't know...still waiting for the facts to get sorted out, and if we are relying on the media for that we may never know....
