Looking at a TroyBuilt Artic Storm 30. Anyone have one? The good , the bad, or the ugly.

I looked a a grundle of snow blowers this weekend. If I saw that model TroyBilt, I passed on it in favor of a Husqvarna.

I have no neighbor kids to hire. Live in the country, closet neighbor is 2 miles with no kids.

I bought this model in 2003 when it was manufactured with a 6.5 hp Briggs and Straton electric start engine. It has run flawlessly every year since then.

You'd better hope your Ariens keeps running. There are no parts for them, and nobody (around here, anyway) will service them.

I had a Craftsman 24" that is still running flawlessly. But given the way Sears is going, I bought a Husqvarna and gave the Craftsman to my neighbors - who still shoveled. He's gone a lot and so I ended up doing their driveway AND the elderly widow's who lives next to them, too.

Troy built is MTD.

Your best money spent would be Toro.

i had a troybuilt mtd with the 8hp b&g engine and 28" chute. it was ok but pretty light duty. i had to rebuild the chute, throttle/drive levers, etc. but i was asking too much of it out here. thats why i got the plow for the quad. now its fun and quick.

MTD makes a lot of brands, about middle of the road quality,
Don't know where you got your information on the Ariens, but in the snow belt where I live, a 100" winter is pretty common and Ariens are the snowthrower of choice. We have a great dealer for sales and service, although mine is 5 years old and I have not had to call him.
My old Ariens went to my son, between him and I that one is over 15 years old and still going strong.

100"? We call that a skiff or a flurry. It might be a regional thing with the Ariens brand. Toro is the main brand here, and my dealer handles those as well as the Husqvarna. He hasn't carried or servived Ariens for 10 years, he said.

I've had a Sears with a Briggs and Stratton engine for about 15 years with no complaints other than I wish I would have bought the model with a headlight for 40 dollars more.

I just got rid of a Troy Bilt 3090 Storm that I had for 5 years. It was an okay machine, but I thought that it should throw snow much farther than it actually did. I did have to replace that cables for both the auger and drive one time. I thought that 1st gear was too slow at times and that second gear was too fast for most snow conditions. I replaced it with a Husqvarna ST330 P this fall. I will not buy any ariens products anymore. Their warranty is not worth the paper that it's written on. On top of that, ariens is overpriced for what you are getting.

Yes Rocky but an entire driveway of your snow weighs about a pound and half! grin I have the Ariens compact and have been very pleased with it for the last 5 years. We have two dealers within 10 miles and Home Depot carries consumable parts.
