What is the name of the Microsoft Word clone that people were recommending here last year? I had it on my old laptop but that took a dump.

Yup. Open office. https://www.openoffice.org/

There are others, but this is probably the best-known alternate.

Includes:
word processor
spreadsheet
database
slide show

You will happy with either Open Office or LibreOffice, but I'd recommend LibreOffice because it has a few more features and is being developed more rapidly.

The two programs have a common heritage, but have split -- with LibreOffice evidently having more developers (or perhaps more enthusiastic ones).

Microsoft will undoubtedly change the file format for Word, Excel or PowerPoint yet again, and when they do and I'd bet money that LibreOffice will be quickest to make a new version when that happens.

Libre gets my vote too.

NOTHING Google gets my vote til they turn off tracking their users.

Duckduckgo works just fine as a search engine.

I have Apache Open Office and I'm happy with it. I can even switch documents back and forth from Word to Open Office.
