A former Savage collector (turned Winchester idiot---sorry Tom ) sold me a 99 F in .284, an E in .22HP, and an 1899 in 30-30 with a pistol grip. His version is that all 99F's in .284 were from the custom shop. I can't see Savage tooling up to make such a limited run, so it makes sense but I can't find any information on the topic. Anyone have any thoughts/ideas/information on it?Thanks,Rodney

Well, he wasn't a very accomplished collector if he believes that. He deserves Winnies then!

The .284 was a standard cataloged item in both the DL and F. No custom work required.

Tsk, tsk, tsk...

That's a new one.. hadn't heard that before. Definitely not true, as Mike said there were a standard offering.

Forgot the 99C, 99PE and 99DE though, Mike. grin

Rodney, enjoy your ,284. Great long range Savage 99 in a great configuration. It was recommended to me to try the Speer 145 BTSP in the 99, and it has been a fantastic producer in the 99 and capable of very good long range accuracy. As mentioned they were a "regular" offering, but in my mind at least they are far from regular with .284 ballistics approximating the long action 270/280.
