Does anybody know when Leupold dropped gloss finish in the VX3 line? I really would like to find one in 3.5-10x-40mm because gloss matches the finish of the rifle in question better than does their matte finish. But I don't think I want to go all the way back to Vari-X 3 era optics just for the sake of cosmetics.

I have a gloss VX-II on one of my Weatherby's, purchased in 2006. I believe they should be available in the VX-3 up until the last year or two, might be worth calling Doug and some other shops to see if they have any NOS.
Otherwise, call the Leupold custom shop and be prepared to pay full MSRP and wait. Unfortunately, it seems they've stripped down most of their factory configurations and if you want anything other than a matte finished duplex reticle, you have to order it from the custom shop.

Several people here have commented positively on the newer 3-9x40 VX2 and that it seems optically as good as the older VX3. That might be your only bet for a newer gloss Leupold. So far I've read no negatives on them. They're around $250 delivered.
