So, this year didn't suck where we hunt. We also added a little trailer to our toolbox, and it fits into the shop doors from my garage, making things a lot easier. We came home yesterday, leaving around noon, drove 3 hours, and had all 4 deer skinned and quartered by 7pm. My selfie Tuesday morning after getting a big-bodied 8: Loading up to come home: Dinner Saturday night: A pic of the 8 (used a 6920, handloaded ttsx, SS 1-4x): Arriving home to process: Being lazy and backing the trailer into the shop:

Old forky going up. We tried ass up and ass down. Don't really see a difference, and it kinda made the whole bich'n about it on the internet seem humorous to me: And, me posing with the deer head showing off my vintage Chickenbuck sweatshirt: Oh, and a last one of the big 8. For reference, I am 6' 190:

goalie, lots of good eats there, congrats. Thanks. He doesn't look quite as big as yours but he had a huge neck. And, good job to everyone who went out and hunted. It isn't about antlers or size, it's about making memories. (But antlers don't suck)

Nice work goalie!
Great eating there. We are behind the 8-ball here. We are down to 3 packages of venni. Time to make meat!
I have that same trailer David. I have used the hell out of it. It even fits down the logging roads most of the time. lol I pull it behind one of the wheelers.
I got another wheeler so I also got a new trailer. I use that little one so much around the yard that I haven't sold it yet. I still may just to free up space. It's not worth much anymore, but what the heck, it's earned it's keep!
Congrats on a fine season!

Great bucks Goalie! Any up north deer is certainly a trophy in my mind. And a thought on trailers......they are kinda like guns. I dont think it is possible to have too many trailers.
Taking today off and will be hunting most of Fri-Sun. My daughter has an orchestra concert tonight and is mad she cannot go even the score with some buck. This might be the funniest deer season on record for me! Dadgum it, she is still mad at dem deers!
What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.

I scored on a buck Friday morning at 8:30. It was just a 6 point rack but nice sized body. It was the only deer I've seen while hunting my spots this season.
Congrats to all the successful hunters!
Stay safe!

Well, my girl is doing better. She wants to go to work Monday and wants me in deer camp - some normalcy in her life. I'm kinda half in the hunt - worried I guess, but it's what we we've been doing for the past 26 years. Our opener is always the 15th, my birthday is the 14th and I've never been with her for my birthday since I've known her - that tradition and normalcy in her life is what she wants right now.
The old Winny Model 100 seems like a good choice given the timing of this hunt. So I sent some 165gr 308 Federal Fusions down range today. 1.75". Acceptable. Truck is packed and pointed north.
Good luck to all! I feel like the luckiest guy in the world - hunt or no.

We had a small camp for second weekend of 2017 deer camp but lots of fun. Pam, Joey and I headed to camp with Allis Chalmers the bloodhound and eener the super deer camp wiener dog on Thursday night last week. We rolled in a bit after dark, temp was drifting between -7 to -10. We lit the wood stove in the cold cabin in the woods and kicked off the long weekend with a visit from buschpilot and our friend Les. Great time, lots of laughs and a couple of games of Hammershlagen were played. We had venison steak sandwiches that night and Friday morning the 3 hunters hit the woods. I must say, I am not disappointed or feeling down about our hunting this year, I have been seeing legal deer and I have certainly had my opportunities. We have the choice to shoot antlerless if we choose this year. I have passed on about 5 so far, which is fun for me. ^^that's hard to pull off without being busted, would have been easier to just shoot her, lol.^^ my view without deer. With deer I had two missed deer shamings to perform, we took care of that.

This is a deer that we have been calling "Eliot". By Sunday morning we had all developed a bit of an itchy trigger finger. A feller like Eliot was not exactly safe to go roaming about. A single shot fired from Missy's stand just before 9AM. Eliot down. draggin... And taggin

Sooooo glad to see deer making a comeback up there. With the country being like it is, they should be everywhere!
I know two guys that miss chickenbuck very much! Same two guys were happy to see these pics last night!
