I have an opportunity to pick up a Vanguard (gray stock w/ black inset grip panels) in 7mm Remington Magnum.for $350. Condition is excellent. It would be my first time out with a Vanguard. Seems priced right and would like to see how they shoot. What is the collective experience with this gun?

I have a Vanguard Sub MOA in 270 WSM. It's very accurate and probably my most consistently accurate rifle.

I did change out the trigger with a Timney and glass bed the rifle, which I do with most of my rifles.

They seem to be viewed as cheap rifles and in my experience are hard to sale. Despite that, I think they are great rifles and much better rifles than a Remington 700. High quality and generally really accurate. A little heavy but not terribly so. I used to put Timney triggers in them, but since they switched to the S2 trigger, have not bothered to do so.

Kilroy - have shot (and own) both Vanguards and HOWA M1500's. "Brothers from different mothers" so to speak. Vanguards are the best known of the two BUT both are excellent values and shooters.
Vanguards are a tad better finished IMHO with bolt travel a bit smoother. Homesteader

I think that's a good price if you want it. Not good enough to be thinking flip it and make a bundle. I have owned 3-4 vanguards over the years and found all I have owned to be very accurate and generally very nice rifles. This might draw some ire but imho they are more comparable to model 70 , model 700 than to the value line rifles. The biggest con to the vanguard is the weight. If you aren't careful with your scope mount and sling selection you can be pushing 9 lbs all up pretty quick.

In other words, solidly built...

At $350 I'd jump on it if you are looking for one in that caliber...

check down the bore with a bore light, just to make sure the
throat isn't shot out..

did see one locally and it looked like it had no rifling down
the barrel for a good 6 inches.. and wasn't that old...

just someone shot it a lot in a short period of time...

I love the ones I've handled...well balanced...

if someone thinks they are heavy, try getting in shape...

Howas/Vanguards aren't heavy...they ain't lightweights...

The stocks are heavy, but keep in mind that the rifles sell for less than the price of a decent stock.

$350 for a new Vanguard2 is about $100 less than small dealer wholesale or big dealer, like Bud's, retail.

If you want to try a 7mm REM MAG, $350 is a heck of a deal IF the rifle is in excellent condition.

As with the Howa 1500s, you are less likely to find a poor shooting V2 than a good shooting V2.

Have a 270 Winchester Vanguard V2 and a 7MM Vanguard V2. Both shoot under a inch at 100 yards, when I can do my part.
Vanguards are well worth the money.

They sell new for $588 here in my country. If I had the rifle, and it was in near new condition, I would be asking $500 for it (although mine normally have rings and bases on them). I am a fan of the Vanguard. They all shoot well, but they are a touch on the heavy side for a sporter.

Great price for a solid rifle.
