I doubt if there is enough meat in the barrel shank to open to WSSM diameter. The largest diameter cartridge they they chamber from the factory is the 7.62x39 and that is even smaller than 308 rim diameter. My Grendel Mini even needs a special bore guide as the universals are to large to fit the bolt raceway.
I would think the original WSSM action being about a half inch shorter than a standard short action would be the way to go.
