Hilarious that she thinks she is the first person to come up with this idea.

This was the most idiotic part:

"The US-based calls to ban trophy hunting in Africa seem particularly hypocritical considering the scale of domestic US hunting -- it would save far more animals if the activity was banned in-country, and would not impact the lives of rural Africans and their wildlife."

It's not American sportsmen calling for bans (except Fudds), it's American animal-rights morons. Stupid Brit.

There's nothing in her article to suggest she thinks that at all.

When a conservation biologist of her standing is arguing for the role of managed trophy hunting in protecting wildlife, rather than destroying it, why would you attack her?

I think you missed the point of that. She wasn't saying that it was American sportsmen calling for bans. She was instead commenting on Americans telling people in Africa what is best for them.

There is hypocrisy in campaigning for a ban on hunting in someone else's country, while not saying anything about your own. Having said that, it seems to me that the last century has shown that properly managed hunting in the US has in fact demonstrated its value in protecting habitat and fostering game and non-game numbers, a point the author should perhaps have noted..

More fundamentally though, Americans (or Australians for that matter) calling for bans on hunting in Africa are also typically blind to the realities of such bans, in terms of the adverse consequences for wildlife and its habitat which inevitably follow, and that certainly is a point made by the author.

Similar argument was recently aired on NPR... good grief! NPR had a program commending the hunting of elephants by sport/trophy hunters! Amazing. Seems they actually listened to some of the reality of the situation.

It was written as such and implied. Your interpretation may vary. Again, hilarious.

When something that is so common sense and has been proven over and over again by empirical evidence, suddenly becomes a "eureka" moment, it is beyond my capacity to NOT see the humor in it.

Fahq Africa and the Africans. Let them destroy all of their wildlife. If they don't care to place a value on their resources, I'm sure as hell not going to.

while not disagreeing about the Africans, I'd like to point out that the anti hunting crap is coming from Europe and America, not Africa. Things like obama's ban on the importation of 'parts' from trophy animals.

Really? Wow, I've never heard a pro-hunting program on NPR before. Was pleasantly surprised. To me, NPR seems to usually be pushing a very liberal agenda. But I have to admit, I don't listen to it often.

When I was in Mozambique last year, the subject of Lion and Elephant exporting came up. The Outfitter ,Ph and the blacks, said that the US dictating to them about their game animals, was like the Chiefs in Africa getting together and telling the US how to manage the game animals of the US.
