I've not tried that, Jim.

I wonder if you could cook them like a pork loin? Maybe hit it hard with smoke at first but use more aggressive temp like 300-350 and probe internal for a pre determined target temp?

Something clever here.

Yeah, either that, or cold smoke first & them cook traditionally.

Having said that, I've not tried it either.

I'm not brave enough to smoke a backstrap or tenderloin.

Let us know how it turns out.

Wow Tom! Congratulations! And welcome little Amelia!

Congratulations to The Ladies of Chickenbuck!! Gettin' it done for the whole camp. Awesome. Thanks for the pics this year Dave. It's great to see Chickenbuck in it's full glory!

No deers were harmed at our Michigan deer camp this season. Weird year to be sure. Very few hunters in the woods. Fewer camps this year and even fewer shots heard. Didn't see many deers on vehicles the trip home either. Opener was a steady all day rain in 35* temps. I did a dawn to dusk sit, but only saw 2. Snow hit the second day and froze all the rain mess from the day previous. We had rain the next 2 days and the roads became nearly impassable. Lost another front air dam on my truck, 3rd one in 5 years up there - dang tupperware parts. I saw a good number of deer, just couldn't grow horns on any of them. We ate well and told tremendous bourbon filled stories by the fire each night. So camp life evens everything out. I might hit it again this weekend depending on the missus.

Everyone have a safe and happy Thanksgiving. I know our family has a lot to be grateful for this year. smile

We had a great hunt. I was able to get a 5pt yesterday on the last few hours of our hunt. Perfect way to end it. Last few hours! I want more. I don’t like knowing that I have to wait til next year. But when mr. buck ran, he took us to his bedroom. I have a pretty good section of new land to scout. We are both excited to check it out.

Cft, it sounds like you had a good hunt anyway. That’s the part that counts.

Anything happen at deer camp that made you laugh this year?

We had a couple. Forecast was for pouring all day rain on the opener. My buddy absolutely wanted to be in his climber. We told him he was crazy. He wouldn't last 2 hours in rain and 36*. Night before opener found us on the road 40 minutes into town to find a golf umbrella. 3rd place he found one - not an easy task in Northern Michigan with 6" of snow on the ground. He cut out a pie shaped panel and bungeed it to the tree after he got up there. I have a pic, but have no idea how this new picture thing works on here. It's funny, but effective. He was up there all day and saw 3 different bucks. It just looked really gay.

The other thing had me watching chickadees playing outside my blind. They landed so close I could touch them. No big deal, that happens all the time. But this time they flew into the blind right at my face coming within a few inches - it happened so fast I couldn't react - unless you count the yell...alright, maybe a man-scream. I've had bear, bobcat, and coyotes come close, but nothing freaked me out like those chickadees. Priceless.

I had a Canadian Jay, or Whiskey Jack follow me around all morning the first day whining for handouts. Somebody obviously had fed this guy and he expected more of the same. It was cute at first, mildly annoying after that, and he all most became a target before I shot a deer.

That is a cool looking rifle. It is also the only one I’ve seen. The savage lady hunter is similar, but Pam’s is a cool gun!
