Hello,

Question, does anyone have experience with a Sauer 202. I am looking at one in 300 Win Mag in a like new condition. All I know is these rifles have gone up a lot in price. Any thoughts?
Thanks,

Tony

Bought two of the synthetic stock versions last year, one in 30-06, one in 25-06. Very accurate, well made guns. Too heavy for my taste if carrying around the mountains. I bought the 30-06 for a bear hunt in Canada. Easy to take apart, carried it in a takedown case, it shot to zero when I put it back together and the safety (which takes some getting used to) is silent when sitting on stand. If the weight isn't a problem, I highly recommend them.

If when you hold it and shoulder the rifle, it doesn't scream at you that it is far and away a better fit than anything you've ever held, you maybe should keep looking.

I have several. They are my absolute favorite rifle, because they fit me perfectly. I have never had a Rem or Win or Ruger or anything that was so easy for me to shoot well. The stock lines and slight palm swell make it literally an extension of me.

The fact that it has a bolt that operates with silky smoothness is something that I marvel at and really enjoy. Like a friend once stated, "Smoother than the Prom Queen's thigh"

I am talking about a rifle that I can shoot the best from a hunting perspective, from field positions, and mainly offhand.

May not be what I would want in a benchgun, but for a hunting rifle, again, perfection.

Only downside is that no one is currently importing Sauer rifles.

Jim/Bill,

Thanks for the input...very well stated! I just returned from purchasing the rifle. It is a wonderful rifle indeed and I'm very pleased. The price was fair for a rifle and scope in like new, 100% condition. I bought a package deal: Sauer 202 std model in 300 win mag, Leupold 4.5-14X50 30mm tube side focus long range model with Leupold QR mounts for $1775.00.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a fair price for a Sauer with scope. I have used Sauer since 1998, and I have just bougt light-weight Sauer outback in 8x57 IS. My old Sauer is great, but a little to heavy to carry around for weeks.

If you're happy with it, it is money well spent. Seems like a fairly competitive price based on what I've seen them go for on the internet sites.

Popapi, hope there's no hard feelings, but I just couldn't part with it.

Tony,as for other barrels, look on the auction sites is my best advice.

FWIW, Cabela's Gun Library at LaVista, NE had a 202 LAW in 270 earlier this week.

Saw your post, sent ya a pm on a 7 mag barrel that I have that can be parted with. Just picked up another 243 lightweight LAW and since I don't use the 7 mag anyway the barrel can go to put a little cash back in the kitty. I'll take $750 for the barrel including shipping. Last price from Sig was $1100 for the gloss magnum barrels. They are not available for the time being and it's anybody's guess if they ever will be again. From what I'm told the 202 is the #1 selling rifle in Germany and Sauer's main focus appears to be military and handguns. I was told they can sell everyone they build at home so the American market isn't a necessity to them. Really good rifles though that are unique and don't compare to anything else on the market.
