Had a Bud that shot a 25BR in competition. It was very accurate, but he gave up because of the lack of good competition bullets. Shouldn't have a problem with all of the 6.5 bullets available. I built my Grandson a 30BR many moons ago. He has killed numerous deer and hogs with it. All one shot kills. 125 grain Ballistic Tips at 2950.

Wondering on the 30br what twist barrel you used? I like the idea of 30br.

Sounds just like a 6.5 Grendel would fill the bill for you. Factory rifles, Mini action Howa(easy to shorten mag) and the 527 CZ. Building one on a 7.62x39 Mini Mauser would work.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.

The build process is fun BUT it is nice to have an action that was designed for the cartridge as getting a 6mmBR to feed in a bolt gun can be and issue and you have to use a full size action to handle the .473 rim diameter. The Grendel fits very nicely in a small action and all the actions/ rifles I suggested are designed to work with the Grendel/ 7.62x39/6mm PPC. I've built 22-204, 6mm-204 qand 25-204's while they turned out to be great cartridges they all needed standard short actions due to OAL, if I were to do it again I'd build on the Grendel/7.62x39 case just to be able to use the small Howa/527/Mini Mauser action to build a really compact rifle.
I put together a Mini Howa 6.5 Grendel, Heavy barrel, Laminated thumbhole stock and 6.5-20x44mm scope in steel rings and it comes in at 8 lb 4oz all up. Just think how light it would be with a skinny barrel, composite stock and a Leupold 2.5x compact in light weight rings and be a great under 200 yard deer rifle...
I doubt that the maybe 100 fps you'll gain with the BR case would make a lick of difference under 200 yards, but getting it to be lightweight, feed and putting together load data would be considerably more difficult. Now if you were designing a HB long range rifle I'd say go for it but then you have a whole slew of cartridges better than the 6.5mm BR that would fit the same action and were designed for the application 6.5 Creedmore, 6.5x47, 6.5 Lapua, 260 Rem and the list goes on.

One more thought, for a really short action, build a 6.5mm WSSM on one of the short WSSM actions.

Anyone have one im thinking about building one on a light frame for under 200yd deer work....THOUGHTS? How about a Creedmoor? Much better logistics and since you're obviously willing to handload you can tailor the ballistics to suit.

I have a 6br I built for fun shooting at long range and hunting out of a box blind. Feeding is no issue if the smith is familiar with the BR mag box ( needs a mag box limiter built in the back)and ramp mods. Nothing major though. Mine feeds perfect. Never a issue. Call Eddie Fosnaugh.
Light recoil, extremely accurate, easy to reload for the BR plus a wealth of knowledge out there due to the Comp shooters. Of course the creed and 260 will out run you. But not enough to matter under 300 yards. Why not a 6br instead of the 6.5. I shoot 105vld into a ragged hole. Shot 105 amax to same POI to 250 yards also.
If you want a custom I say go for it. Otherwise just get a creed.

17 twist for 117-130 g bullets works well also.
