A friend recently found his grandfather's 1886 in 40/82 and needs a couple of screws to get it back in shape. I have tried Numrich Arms, Jack First and several local sources to no avail.

I am looking for the screws that hold the fore end tip on, both upper tang screws and the rear sight elevator. I was able to find said screws for the Japanese made models but was told the are a different or thread and would not work. If anyone has any suggestions where to look next I would be greatly appreciative. Ammo was actually the easiest as my local gun shop had a couple boxes of new manufacture on hand but they had none of the parts I needed.

Thanks in advance.

Scroll down the page linked. They sell complete action screw sets for the 1886.

The forend cap screws you need may have to be fabricated by a machinist. They are not commonly found. Same with pre-

war sight elevators. Good luck.

Thanks for the tips. I'll check them out after Christmas.

I was afraid that the for end cap screws would be difficult to find, more than one laughed when I asked if those screws were available. The rear sight elevator I was going to replace with one from a Win 94 that I have laying around. I figure I can get the sights regulated close enough using it.
