Any other campfire members working tonight? I work at a wastewater treatment plant and spend most Thanksgivings, Christmass eves and Christmass days at work. I bet I'm not alone though.

I had that for two years (28/28 though) when I worked offshore in Kazakhstan. It sucked plain and simple.

Wife goes in about midnight tomorrow night.

By then we will have spent Christmas day together though.

The Mrs works up on the slope too. Only been home for one thanksgiving and Christmas in the last nine years. Can’t complain about the holiday pay though. Sounds like you are all going to be eating better than me tomorrow.

Now retired but have worked for 20 something years of my working life in 24 / 7 operations like a refuse incinerator, a chemical waste incinerator and a coal fired power plant. In those years there's not a single holiday all year that I haven't worked a 12 hr. day or night shift. So I can relate. Have a nice holiday, anyway. We used to get holiday pay in addition to our regular pay so working on Christmas eve / or day wasn't as bad as some people thought because the following payday was more financially satisfying. I hope you get fairly compensated with some extra bucks for working days or nights like Christmas.

I bet it did! We work a 4 day on- 4day off (12 hrs) shift and its constant. I love the shift but the holidays on and off are supposed to even out. The problem with mine is that the year when we are due to line up favorably for the holidays is leap year and by adding an extra day to the calendar, that shifts things and I end up working the major holidays 6 out of 8 years for 22 years now. I ve complained about it plenty but no one wants to change anything.

4 and 4 would suck, only had two such trips to Atyrau.

I was unemployed last Christmas. I'll take over employed to unemployed for the next couple years to get the kids through school and pay off the house. Plan to cut way back after that.

My only real gripe is my wife works long hours so we don't get that much time together when I'm home.

Thank you 22250rem. Well there are 4 of us operators and they pay us all for every holiday regardless who worked it. I know that's unusual. but the other two operators at home are getting paid for the holiday same as I am. Im lucky to be here- don't get me wrong but i'm hating it at Christmass.

Being semi-retired, I don't have to work Christmas anymore.

I always hated working Christmas for two reasons, first, I was away from my family, second, Christmas is the most violent holiday in America as these two Virginia Deputies found out earlier today; LINK.

To those of you working today and tomorrow, I hope you can have the best Christmas possible and my the coming year be even better for you and your families.

To All,

Until I retired from the USA, I NEVER had a single Christmas Eve/Day off, as it was always said that, "Tex doesn't have little kids, so he doesn't need those days off."
(In their defense, I usually got at least 2 for 1 days off & sometimes 3 for 1, as a result of always working the 24th/25th.)

yours, tex

With careers in both the military and law enforcement... Ya, I worked a lot of holidays.

Now, "semi-retired" if that's what I can call it, I'm off tomorrow, as is Mama. Hopefully we'll have a nice quiet Christmas Day together.

Guy
