Okay I already have Swedes and 260's so they are out of this conversation. Have a 6.5 barrel blank and "need" a new rifle. Will finish to 20-22in med heavy contour, LTR concept. 6.5Creedmoor or 6.5x47?
Prairie dogs and coyotes we'll put an arbitrary limit of 500yds, shooting from bi-pod or improvised rest not a bench gun but more accuracy is always better.
I DO reload.

6.5 Creed Moor you can buy good ammo and brass at a good price. Brass , dies, and reamer will be the same specs.

We have two 6.5x47s because we started with a reamer and dies a few years back. Love the round. If starting from scratch, I'd go Creedmoor.

Bingo, and this from a 6.5x47L owner. The Lapua is a sweetheart and a great example of engineering, but the Creed won the market share and is almost the same thing.

dont doubt the reasoning, same thoughts myself, but.....hell if were being purely practical id own nothing but 243/270/3006's ! Creedmoors popularity (at least currently) almost seems a sellout to the old-school cult followed 6.5's.

Well if you go 6.5x47 you won't be slumming it. Mine has a .170 throat and 140 VLDs loaded at 2.77 are just shooting on top of each other. So if not worried about factory ammo options, it is a great cartridge to consider. Feeds great from AICS mags but that was expected.

This was first 5 shot group shot off bipod with brass pulled from Lapua box and loaded. 0 prep. And subsequent groups have been as good which is saying something as I am not a big bench shooter. Have seen many creedmoor groups that good too though. Don't see you going wrong with either one. [Linked Image]

If you don't need cheap factory ammo, the Lapua is a better design that seems to have a slight accuracy advantage for most who shoot them side-by-side.

It's a shame that the Lapua design didn't win the sales race.

With the Creedmore you get , cheaper brass, factory loaded ammo ( all Readily available) , and is available with small primered Lapua brass. With the 6.5x47 you just get the Lapua brass , that in most places you have to order. The only real advantage that the Lapua had was Lapua brass. And now that advantage is gone............

The 6.5 Lapua is a better-designed case.

Kinda like asking which shade of green is a better shade for Camo....

really doesn't make a difference in cartridge performance...

I'd say it boils down to what components are the most accessible and readily available...

From a 260 & 6.5 x 55 shooter, the answer to that question would be the Creedmoor..

However despite its popularity, I noticed at a few places that are sources locally for die sets...

6,5 Creedmoor dies from RCBS, for their basic set are still $65.00 vs half that price for say the 260 or 6.5 x 55...

the 6.5x47 is a reloaders only round. You relaod, That being said, the 6.5x47 is inherently more accurate, better barrel life also.

All this 6.5 talk is giving me an itch for a 6.5 Creedmoor. I already have a 6.5x55 Tikka T-3, and it looks lonely...

How so? if a creed and a x47 have the same barrel, throating and bullets, how the hell will the x47 have better barrel life? How many rounds better? 5 or 6?

6mm CM is a better choice and is moving out the 6.5 for 1000 yard shooting.

sticking with the LTR short-stubby (relatively) idea ....a 20" barrel....does that make a difference in cartridge choice?
