I m wanting to buy my first 22/250. I know Remington build theirs on short actions. I ve not been impressed by their products or customer service now days. I was thinking either Howa/Vanguard or Tikka but don't know if they build them on a short action. I don't really like Savages. Any advice would be appreciated.

Howa uses a short action as does the Vanguard. Tikkas are all the same bolt. They use different bolt stops depending on action length.

Right now, I think the best buy out there is on the Remington Model 7 Predator. I had one in 22-250 and it was a very accurate rifle. I know there is a lot of anti-Remington talk going on, but most of it is unfounded, and people posting stuff that they really know nothing about. I will guarantee you that their rifles will shoot with any other brand. Don't be afraid to buy one.

My last model 7 had sharp burrs on the magazine that cut my hand when loading from the top, and about every 3rd round wouldn’t fire. And before you blame my handloads, i was shooting remingtom factory green box.
Big Green was no help.
The one I had before that was a CDL in 7mm-08 a decade before that shipped with what looked like a gray piece of rotten wood. that shot minute of notebook paper with many factory loads, floating it made it minute of 3x5... dumped it also
My last 22-250 was a winchester featherweight compact, FN vintage, shoots lights out, never a group over 3/4” i just wish it was twisted a little tighter 1-12” right now... great for stuff under 55 grains

I'd consider looking for one with a twist quicker than the 1-14 or so that still seems to be standard. Lots of useful bullets need more than that. A 1-9 is okay, but 1-8 would be best. Not many choices available from the factory, unfortunately.
What fresh Hell is this?

Dh, I'd start with asking yourself what type of bullet you want to shoot and go from there. If you want to shoot the heavier bullets, that's going to narrow down your options in a factory rig. If you want to shoot the heavies, I would suggest looking at 1/8 twist which will give you the option of shooting both light bullets as well as the heavies. Both Tikka and Ruger offer them in a 1/8 twist.
Most any factory .22-250 these days will be built on an appropriate sized action except for the few like Tikka which as stated, uses a different bolt stop. While the Tikka is a one-size fits all action, it will feed and extract smoother and more positively than the majority of factory offerings. One last consideration is magazine constraint...Pay attention to this if using the heavies.

Get whatever gun you want at a pawn shop or gun store... used...
have it rebarreled to whatever you desire...
twist, etc...

X-bolt 22-250 has a super short action and certain models have a fast twist.
