Was reading David's book last night and came across the section on 1899 CD's.He states they were first catalogued in 1905.Now, I have one with the same checkering, pistol grip, and straight lever in 30-30 but the ser. # (320xx) puts it at 1903 . My question, I guess, is Did they make a few before standardizing them in 1905 ?Also ,were there many made? ( p.s.-- it's a #'s matching gun but unfortunately has been reblued) . Thank's, Rodney

The CD's were just a catalogued rifle with specific options. Those options were available before they catalogued the CD as a model. So yours is identical to a CD, but wouldn't letter as a CD. To me, there's no difference either in desirability or value. Others may differ.

I saw an 1899A on Gunbroker a few years ago in that configuration, 1903 production. I posted what Rory said and the bidding took off. I don't think the fact that it wasn't a CD hurt the value any. Possibly it made it more desirable. David
