Hey guys, I'm listing this rifle for a good friend of mine that is starting to let go of some of his collection...I vouch for him and his info, he is a stand up guy and a Winchester nut too boot. Now I'm not the be all end all on this stuff and most likely anyone that knows about this rifle/the subtlety of Pre 64 winchesters likely will ask a question that is over my head. That said I'm willing to put you in touch with him and you can geek out...This will be for interested parties only. Im going to just list the essentials, as anyone interested likely knows what they are looking at, again if you want to get ahold of the owner that is perfectly alright and will be arranged
That said here is the info and he is looking to get $2150 for this rifle plus shipping. There is a no fire inspection but the buyer picks up shipping both ways...unless you and him work something else out.
So this Pre 64 was made in late 1962 until being discontinued in '63 and as far as "rarity" he says its 15th out of 20 (20 being the rarest). The most common is 30-06 and second most is .270. This rifle is in the same class of rarity as the 300 sav, 9mm Mauser, 35 rem, and 7.65 Argentine..
The thing is in really good condition. I took pictures that represent everything I can see. IF you would like some pictures of any parts in specific please let me know and I'll be happy to get those to you.
The stock that it is in is not original and is professionally bedded to this action. The price represents the rifle as it sits in this stock, the other stock is an original that was professionally re-finished with checkering re-cut by Maryanne Hockenberry. This stock is available additionally for $225.
If you have any offers that you'd like me to take to him regarding the rifle as it sits or in any configuration of stocks etc. please let me know. Again Im trying to cut through the used car salesman routine. He didn't list a round count estimation (I just realized) so I'll get that info. Im sure is was mostly "hunter" type shooting so I imagine its fairly low. I'll also get the "grouping" info from him but again Im sure its around 1moa or so...(more to come on this subject)
Please PM me and maybe throw up a notifier if you are of serious interest (in case to avoid "ill take it" disputes should that arise) General big boy rules apply. Money orders are good, personal checks are good, and even bitcoin can be arranged...this will go FFL to FFL.
Thanks.

Very nice rifle, but I am a bit curious how a rifle made in 1962 was chambered in a cartridge introduced in in 1963 unless it is a rebarrel?

Backstory/history?
