Used to listen to the "skip". KOMA, WHO, and some station in Jaurez or thereabouts. Only way to stay awake at night. Now it is FM and having to find new stations when on the road. NOAA is still the best listening over around Glenwood Springs. As much as I dislike NPR for their politics, they do play something other than the same 5 or 6 songs; if you don't like what is on, wait, you will find something you never heard.

KOMA always was clear, here. And another 100,000 watt station out of either Dallas or San Antonio, I don't remember which. That one was a country station. Both came in at night - after they could kick up the power. KOA out of Denver used to come in here, but I can't get it anymore.

At one point, I had a 1952 Chevrolet 2 door sedan that had a pretty good AM radio - I could pick up a station in Guymon, OK until I was about half-way home, then started getting our local station pretty quick. They ran on the same frequency 1230!

65 Mustang. WKY and Danny Williams was the other major station in Oklahoma City. KOMA and Ronny Kaye could be heard in California at night.

880 CKLQ Brandon Manitoba! Great Country Station. Used to love listening late at night driving around in my 76 Trans Am with a pretty lady along side!
Hit the Friday night bush party, we would all pull up, open our car and truck doors and crank up the tunes, everyone listened to it. Dang, good times.
Just Googled it, still on the air.

LOL. I grew up on KOMA and WKY out of Oklahoma City (we were about 150 miles SW of OKC). At about sundown every day WKY would turn their power down enough that it became static and KOMA would turn theirs up to 50,000 watts. When I was on wheat harvest I listened to my "home" radio station all the way to Wyoming, that was pretty cool.

We still have a KOMA here, but it is an FM Classic Rock station.

Also listened to WLS, WWL and another out of San Antonio whose call letters I don't recall.

No more 50K watts . . . They tore down the three antennas and the station house of KOMA last year. Its just a big empty field now. WKY was sold to the messicans . .

We listened to KOMA out of Oklahoma City at night. They were the only Top 40 station we could get in Wyoming.

The old '79 Bronco had an OEM AM radio. Mostly it was tuned to WNAM, our local Paul Harvey and whatnot talk radio station.

When in high school my '62 Pontiac Catalina had an AM radio. Cool car with 389 and 3 deuces made even cooler by hanging an FM converter under the dash.

The wimmins really loved the FM. Spent many nights listening to the improved tonal qualities of FM as we watched the submarine races at the shores Lake Michigan.

WWVA a had a Saturday night program we listened to as a kid. Sometimes we could get WSM.
When I drove longhaul, 90's, clear channel A M kept me awake.
