So far we haven't had much of a winter. I was up above 5000 feet on Saturday before I hit even remnant patches of snow. There should be at least a couple feet. We had temps over 60 through the weekend. I went trout fishing and found relatively clear water in a creek that would normally be running 3-4 times as much water and normally somewhat muddy. When the south and east get hammered, we generally get mild weather to balance. It looks like things are going to change toward the end of the week returning us to more normal winter conditions.

When I left the truck yesterday it was -30 without the windchill. I drilled about 22-23 inches of ice and we have in the neighborhood of 28-30 inches of snow on the ground.

No joke. Snowing here right now, which happens only every couple years. Winter for us is usually wet, muddy, and alternating between freezing temps and 65-70 degrees. Makes everybody good and sick. Christmas might be t-shirt weather or long johns weather......

I'v got to get the picture-posting thing down! smile
Here at 6550 ft altitude - picture an inch of snow, on top of the ice storm we had early last night, and currently 11 degrees.
Equals our other "deep" snow this year - and only had 3.
New Mexico is in a hurt that will also affect Texas and Mexico. Southern CO is in the same shape AFAIK.

Western Colorado is boneass dry too. On the Grand Mesa behind my house there is about 10 inches of snow at 10500’. There would normally be a snowpack of around 50” by now which would represent about double in snowfall. Last year in the Grand Valley we had 4.5” of precip, even for a high desert area that it about half of normal. It was 58 degrees yesterday and our normal temps would be a high of about 28. February and March had better be wet...

Dry and warm in so. Idaho. The ground is bare, it 'plummeted' to 26 last night and will be 40+ later today. It's abnormally warm and dry here. The nearest ski area is open but only has 28". Last year at this time it was close to 4'.

Amazing difference from last year to this. Grass is starting to green up, pushing 50 tomorrow. It's not uncommon for it not to get above freezing for the entire month of January around here.

I had trouble posting pictures up until just a few months ago. Just open up an account (free) with Imgur. Save your pics to your Imgur account. Have your Campfire page open, and where you're going to post your reply, and at the same time, have your Imgur page open. Go to the Imgur page, right click on the photo you want to post and hit copy, then open the Campfire page up, and go to where you want to put a pic, right click and hit paste. If I can figure it out, anyone can.

Dry here. Low snow year. The ski areas are just getting all of the lifts open. "Storm" came through yesterday and all it created was a good frost. We really need some moisture. Our water, and half of the country's water comes from our mountains. We may see water rationing next summer.

Half of our snow usually lands between mid-February and the end of March. We'll see what happens.

Every cloud has a silver lining. If it eventually turns out to be a low snow year, I can go backpacking into the mountains earlier because the streams won't be swollen so bad.
